Where I live, it doesn't exist at all as far as I can see. Sure there still might be unfounded dislikes and hatreds but I never see anything come of it.

The closest thing I can see to racial hatred here is actually probably just thrown up to culture clash. People that choose to keep living their lives in their old ways instead of bothering to do things like learn English (grrrrrrrr) generally tend to get the short end of the stick.

It's obvious that racism is less and less of a problem as it has traditionally been. However most 'racism' or bigotry occurs against:

Jews, the rich, Americans, and whites.

Anti-semitism and anti-americanism are huge in Europe right now. While anti-americanism has always been popular in Canada, it has since increased.

Not to say racism against other groups doesn't exist, they do, but not in the PUBLICALLY expressed amounts I see against the aforementioned groups. Let's just say I hear a lot of "Americans are materialistic" or "Americans are ignorant", and if someone were to say "Black people are ignorant" they would be derided almost immediately, and deservedly so. I just don't like the double standard.

The rich have always been accused of 'exploitation' or some other insidious method of accumulating their wealth. That is nothing new, and it's been that way since the dawn of time. But they're not a 'race', so I'll leave it at that.

Finally it's important not to confuse racism with statistics. If I say "aboriginals drink more than white people", that is not inherently racist if, on the average, they do.

I would like to have proof about that anti-semitism too.

On anti-americanism: there's much of it, but I wouldn't label it in the same racism as age or race racism. I've yet to see a gang that's sole task is to find american tourists and then kick and rob them. Anti-americanism is more of a public opinion based on the current events and USAs foreign policy. People accept USA citizens, just not your government. Hence a more proper name would be "anti-usa-government."

I went to the orchestra with my family and grandmother a few years ago and on the way there she said "WELL I hope we've got some good seats that aren't way up in n***** haven!" (Referring to balcony seats where, apparently, the segregated seats for black people would be)

My siblings and I were floored. It was some relief to realize that WE are not like that... and the generation that promoted such things is on the way out.

Anyway I lived in Florida growing up and it's pretty bad... I mean not as bad as my grandmother shows the past to be, but there's a church shaped like a KKK hood with windows for the eye-holes. In recent years they filled in the holes but it still has a nice hood shape with a point at the top

Storytime: In elementary public school I was in the "gifted" class. Not a single non-white person in there. Now I agree that this may not be due to racism and simply because of the demographics, etc. BUT... listen to the repercussions. We only saw the "regular" class during PE. I remember a friend teasing a kid (privately to me) like "hey want a banana?" in an attempt to bestialize a black student.

Of course the "regulars" were somewhat resentful, and a gang of about 6 kids formed in the regular class that would hang out in the bathrooms to beat up/mess with the "gifteds". The leader was Tyrone, and it became such a problem that I marched to the principal's office with some of my friends to report the harassment. The solution? Separate allowed bathroom times for the two "classes". Yes, folks, this was only about 10 years ago.

On a side note, some high school teacher in my town made a comment to her class about how "jews have horns like the devil". She had never knowingly met anyone jewish. My jewish friend was in the class and said look at my head, you idiot! Do you see horns? LOL

And if you aren't convinced racism is alive and well today, just type in some racial slurs and the word "christian" or "church" or something like that and you'll find 1000 misspelled manifestos on the subject. Here's a nice intelligent site if you, too, would like to be a soldier of god. (ok this one's a parody, but it's enough to get you started. wait... it IS a parody right? i've looked at so many of these sites; it is very difficult to tell the difference)

edit: info which should scare you

in my experience anti-semitism is fairly "common", but most of that is only in joking. There is plenty of other racism too, anti-asian, anti-caucasian, etc racism going on too, it just doesn't get as much press.

Any kind of racism or discrimination you can imagine exists, but some are more prevalent than others. Anti-semitism might be getting more press because it happens more or because the occurances of it are more severe.

I lived 10 years in eastern central Iowa, in a small farm town. There was maybe 6 people of other ethnicities in my class of ~75-100. Racism was not a problem at all. I never once heard a racist comment from anyone. The worst racist comment I've ever heard from someone in that town was actually my grandma talking about some chick on Trading Spaces, and the comment was something around the lines of "Oh that room looks like crap, if she wasn't black she would be fired." And she did it jokingly... but the room did look like crap...... anyways..... For the past about 9 years now I've been living in mid south Arkansas. Probably a little under half my class was black. Racism is horrible here. Within one month of moving here the KKK had a meeting / parade on the steps of town hall. Fights between racial groups were common throughout public school. College, there is no problem at all. But then again I attribute it to the fact that people aren't 'forced' into the environment and aren't 'forced' to interact with one another. If you don't like a person, you can change seat, and you don't have to talk to them outside the halls or whatever. This is really an ultra-conservative town, theres probably a church at least every other block thats acutually in the town and not neighborhoods. And yet despite the heat everyone always gives me when they ask what church I go to and I answer "I'm an unpracticing Catholic," these 'good churchly folk' are some of the most ignorant people I've met. Example: while going to a graduation/birthday party of a friend in the grade lower than me just a few weeks ago, waiting for a few other guests we were talking about how nasty fast food is. My friends mom starts going "Oh yea I remember this one time when I went to a waffle house and this black guy was cookin and I got some hash browns with these pubes and white stuff in the middle. Stupid black people, to this day I never eat at a waffle house with a black cook." I could barely contain myself from starting to yell "WTH? Yea I'm SURE it was because he was black." But considering I was about 15 miles into the country with no car, and the rest of the day ahead, I decided not to. Yes racism still definately exists in the US. And, as a gamer I feel hypocritical saying this, I partially blame it on media. Theres funny racism, which is intended to point out the stereotypes of society (watch Tough Crowd on comedy central), then theres... well.... the vast majority of hip hop music, unfortunately, I think which promotes hateful racism. Not that I'm saying 'rap is bad', but name one other genre of music which constantly spouts out lyrics about killing people, doing drugs, idolizing thugs, and using racial sterotypes.
