Most Memorable Concerts

MUZAK!
Heh, sorry if this has been brought up before, i did some searching but came up with nothing. Anyway....
Earlier today on my drive back from uni, i decided to throw my Pennywise - Full Circle CD into my car's CD player, and i skipped it straight on to the last track, Bro Hymn Tribute. This track just brings back memories or Reading Festival 2001 (Or was it 2000?) where me and a whole croud of punks were running around in circle pits, fists in the air, chanting to that very song. It's probably one of my favourite concert memories and the best show i've ever seen. It was just pure... unity. A whole croud of strangers chanting as one, beating the living crap out of each other... as one. It almost brings a tear to my eye how much it ultimately ruled.
And so this got me thinking of other concerts i've been to (A hell of a lot of them, i might add) and some very fond memories come up. Croud surfing to the Mad Caddies, fist in the air, chanting away to Weird Beard before coming down and out all bloody. Watching the absolutely terrible Lost Prophets get boo'd and bottled off stage at Deconstruction 2002 (I think it was 2002, gah!). Speaking to the Mad Caddies whilst wearing a cunning drawn-on disguise of a handlebar moustache, again at Deconstruction. So many memories....
So yeah, have any of you got any cool memories of past gigs you've been to?

This just reminds me of seeing The Offspring back in about 2001. It truely is a great thing to hear a crowd in the 10's of thousands screaming "Driver's are rude, such attitudes, when i show my piece, complaints cease, something's odd, i feel like i'm god, you stupid dumbs**t **** motherf**ker!".
Also when seeing the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, having two obviously very stupid girls standing next to me remarking "Hey, they're covering that All Saints song" when they started Under The Bridge....
*stab*
I'm not even really a fan of RHCP, but that's just plain dumb.
good music, but the lyrics really don't do it for me, try doing a translation, even with my basic german it's easy
i haven't been to any concerts a few friends are going to see metallica and a few other bands later this year
A few years ago, Black Grape and Kula Shaker.
No seriously.
Surely some of you remember concerts other than "Yeah.... it was awesome....".
EDIT: In light of post above...
No real outstanding memories.. sorry, esuna.

Warped 2002 in Council Bluffs was also great - second time I saw NOFX, and they performed a set called "Slow-FX." It consisted of nothing but their slow and mellow songs, which put the crowd into uproar. I loved it - I'd seen them once before, so I wasn't missing out on anything, and watching them have a blast while **** everyone off was great. Then, they made it all up. At the end of their set, they broke into The Decline, with the "Brown Hornet" from the Bosstones stepping in on trombone. They played a big chunk of it, too.
NOFX in 2000 was great, too. Their drummer had broken his finger, so all the drummers for the other bands got to play a song with them. Also, it was Melvin's birthday and they gave him a birthday cake, which Fat Mike tossed into the crowd. Hefe was almost hit in the head with a flying turkey leg.
However a few of my favorite moments were probably Less Than Jake a couple of years back at Leeds festival, for the last song they had everyone do the biggest, all mighty circle pit, ever. It consisted of hundreds of people circling the sound tower.
It was mayhem.
So good.
Another one that you just reminded me of Esuna, the offspring Reading 200 (i think...possibly 99) It was my first ever festival, I ended up right at the front and Dexter came out with a firemans hose and soaked everyone I'll never forget that.

That was the Reading, i was there. Intermission was surreal, yet fantastic.
And i've got you beat on the mosh pit.
Seeing Sick Of It All a few years ago, once again at a festival i think, they split the crowd in two, the front and the back. The front were told to face away from stage, and the back were forced to face towards the stage. Then when the song kicked off, both halves of the croud (Thousands of people) clashed in the middle for an almighty pit. Good times...
As for another one (I told you i have loads!) was seeing Slipknot. When one of their heavier tracks came on, an actual proper death metal song (It was either before they got famous or a hidden track or something). Loads of the little hoodie wearing teeniebopper masses didn't know the song and kinda stood around while a number of the more hardcore in the croud geared up to full-beatdown mode. I was one of these people. Beating down pitters left and right....... in a miniskirt.
The night started with nothing special; some dude whose name I don't remember fiddling around with an analog synthesizer and two jammed turntables, producing instantly forgettable and very looping ambient. Then a performance from a female noise artist who used traffic sounds as her sound source. Not much to see or hear there, except that she played in the middle of the audience and not on the stage like the others.
After these first two performers I was already anxious for some Merzbow goodness, but suddenly two guys armed with a microphone, an oil barrel and various other bits of equipment took the stage, and treated the audience to 30 minutes of noise, oildrum beats and extremely harsh screaming. The whole set was incredibly captivating and hypnotic. Later I learned that the duo was the finnish power electronics band STROM.ec. I've been a devout purchaser of their albums from there on.
And then, finally, a small japanese guy in a sweater comes onstage with an even smaller laptop computer. He plugs it in, sets it on a table and sits down behind it. Then a jackhammer hits my ears. The noise is deafening, like four Boeing 747s taking off at the same time, all tied to your head. This brutal assault pins the listener down and won't let go. Then I start to feel the music in my body. It's forming emotions in me and my mood constantly varies between anxious, aggressive, calm and nearly transcendent while the sound pressure in the hall causes the video screen to warp back and forth like in hard wind. 45 minutes later I'm happy, exhausted and enriched by an experience I'll never forget. Beauty in ugliness, and that sort of thing.
To my heart, brother!
Being at a Danko Jones show is awesome. Imagine three guys in serious - serious - suits, complete with hats, coming on stage, and then proceeding to rock indescribably for the next two hours. I saw them at the SubStage (a local club in Karlsruhe) recently, and it's incredible how well Danko can play with the crowd.
I'd love to quote a little of his trash talk, but around here, it'd mainly consist of lots and lots of '***'s
New Order's first comeback gig in Manchester, where they played a huge load of modernised Joy Division (including a beautiful version of my most favouritest song evar).
The Cure on the Wild Mood Swings tour, when they played a tiny six-song set of new songs, then came back for a colossal greatest hits encore.
Smashing Pumpkins, when I was up at the front of the pit a couple of metres from James Iha (who I had a bit of a dumb boy-crush on at the time). Billy Corgan gave me the finger when I threw a cup at him.
Nick Cave playing a stripped-down set (piano, bass, violin, drums) in Edinburgh, with the delightful Warren Ellis (of Dirty Three fame) on violin. I'd never heard of Ellis before then but I don't think I noticed Nick Cave through the whole gig - I was so transfixed by Ellis's playing.
During the pit to Engine #9, someone fell, and about 40 people in a 15 foot space just collapsed into a pile of groaning bodies. My mate & I were stood right at the edge of said pile, going 'Woah, we were nearly in that'
And in the spirit of a proper pit, people just helped everyone up, checked no-one had more than a bruise or two, then got going all over again
I think there was a thread about this kinda stuff about a year ago.
I should be so lucky. I have a ticket for next summers concert, BUT the entrance exams are the SAME ****ING day.
Whooo.

hmm, fav concert had tobe going to see Mindless Selfindulgance in Clevland.
My GF of the time and I are both big fans (as they are a NYC band, and just rock something horrible), however neither of us had a ride, and our friends with cars that liked em couldn't go.
so we got another one of our friends to drive us and go with.
This girl is barely over 100 lbs, short, and the daughter of pastures...
It was great (yes she loved it also)

About mosh pits, I've been in them, but I don't see the allure of fighting - like real fighting - in the mosh pit. As a performer in a band myself, I dont want kids to come to our concerts and leave with black eyes or missing teeth. I would much rather they share an enjoyable experience with each other and us that is mutually enjoyable, instead of forcing out one of two guys who really get hurt. I can't see the point in voluntary, gratuitous fighting... for me, it doesn't make the music any better (because I'm concentrating on not slipping on the sweat-slick floor and getting trampled to death) ... it's just painful. Especially when you have really crazy guys there. Why?!!?
And Im' going to warped tour this year, for the first time, woohooo!!
My 1st concert was my favorite. It was Summerjam 2000 and was the first concert I had been backstage at. I met most of the artists that were preforming and was called on stage durring Naughty By Natures preformance of Hip-Hop Hooray (old school ) and Met a couple of other atrists I really like too. Most of you wouldn't know them if they told you what their names were, so I won't bother either. I'm done
The most memorable show I've been to would have to be the last show I went to at a place here in town called Drifters. The place is really crappy, the guy who owns it is an a-hole, so basically people decided they wanted to get banned form there. During the last band (a really kikass band in deed, I have mentioned them before The Jonnee Earthquake Band) I left the pit (not a fighting pit, a dancing pit) and went over to the merch table, then out of the corner of my eye I see a kid I know launch himself into the air, brass knuckles held high, and start whomping on this kid I had been standing right next to (the kid was a jerk anyways) and suddenly everyone starts beating on this kid, they crash into a drum set, the bouncer (this HUGE lady) comes out and starts tossin kids left and right, I got the hell outa there with my CDs that I had just bought. I heard the kid got like 100 stitches in his face or something like that.
Also there was the time I went to the last show at a place called the Sugar Shack in Lowell a few towns over, the place was being closed down because it was structurally unsound, as in the floor wasn't held up at all. So by the end of the show with everyone including the owner (he has crazy eyes) out on the dance floor slamming it up the floor was bouncing up and down a good foot or so. It was crazy.
I'm really looking forward to show I'm gonna go see in June, gonna go see the Aquabats at the Axis in Boston on the 17th, if anyone knows the Aquabats you would know their shows are notoriously awesome. I can't wait.
The band I would most like to see though is a band from Atlanta Georgia called Treephort. They are a kikass nerdcore punk band, and in their shows they always have the lead singer light his **** on fire, and the set always ends with the audience rushing the stage to hump the band en masse. I would REALLY like to see those guys.
My friend's band was breaking up, it was their second to last show, and it was awesome.
Little local emo/pop-punk band, but since I know all the guys it was a great show.
Oh my, how little sympathies I have for that kind of jerks. Not as though beating people up for no particular reason wasn't bad enough in any case, no, he's got to do it in an environment where group dynamics can go wrong...

Well apprently the kid who got beat up pulled a knife on a friend of the guy with te brass knuckles, and was quite drunk, so it wasn't exactly reasonless (of course they would have beat SOMEBODY up by the end of the night anyways). But I tried to distance myself from the fight as much as possible. Twas quite the thing to watch though.
