Then you have to take it up a notch, but not blow your wad, so maybe cool it off a notch, and you can't put the same artist twice on the tape, except if some subtle point or lesson or theme involved, and even then not the two of them in a row, and you can't woo somebody with Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" and then bash their head off with something like GBH's "City Baby Attacked by Rats," and... oh, there are a lot of rules. Anyway, I worked hard at this one.

Yes indeed. Making a good compilation is an art. It takes quite a long time to do, and is a pain in the arse trying to find just the right song. Thus I have created this thread.

Post your CD compilations, but not a standard 10 minute job. I'd like to see some well thought out compilations and an explanation of each, because that's the reason I posted this in Discussion. To get sensible posts~

Well let us begin

Description: Anime Chillout Sessions is a compilation of various songs with the main theme being that of nice relaxing songs from anime series. That's not to say the songs themselves cannot have an emotive power behind them, but the aim was to focus mainly on the 'calming' side of anime.
I set out with the task of never to use the same series twice. This included any spinoffs (IE I could only use 1 song even if the show had a TV series, OVA's and Movies) Though this deemed quite an overwhelming task, as even though I had access to roughly 60Gb of songs and even though I found quite a few calm songs, I felt that a few of those songs did not fully represent their respective series to the fullest degree. For example, try and think of the theme song from your favourite movie. This is the song that represents, to you, that movie. Now try and think of that obscure bit of music they played during the part of the movie you don't remember well. That was the problem I was faced with. Music that did not represent the series. Though eventually I did weed through my collections and came out with a few quality tracks.
On the other end of the spectrum I would often find myself with 5-6 songs I really really really liked, but I had to stick to my '1 Song Per Series Rule'. Hell for my Evangelion selection I mulled over "Rei II" and "Mother The First Other" for about 2 hours before I finally made my decision.
A few of you more knowledgable in anime soundtracks might note that Yoko Kanno has her hand in on quite a few tracks (1, 4, 7, 8 & 10), but for sake of the arguement she will be listed as a composer because each track varies to such a degree you are unable to differentiate them from the rest of the tracks. Add that to the fact that her style varies with each series and you will find ithas very little bearing on the '1 Song Per Series Rule'.
In the end I still feel unsastisfied with a few things. 1 or 2 songs and the way in which I have ordered the rest of the albumn. The order is a very important factor, and I'm sure I'll be changing it in the near future until I'm satsified with it. But in the end... I still feel it's quite a good compilation and it will tide me over for quite some time.

So there you go. Let us read about your compilations or any critiques you may have.

It might be just me, but you are not going to get any responses. Why?
Most people, including me, simply compile CDs. 10-minute jobs. We don't thourougly seek and keep in mind the emotional side of every track.
Hmm... most of the CDs I have, the tracks on it are in alphabetical order
