<div class="IPBDescription">well after along time</div> well yeah.. many of you ive known a while.. well kinda.. lol

after alot of tears and heartache.. thinking of moving all over. backpacking. getting a new bike and riding off... joining the police.. a ton of things..

im moving up near liverpool. to be closer to my girlfriend...

i have never lived away from home before (im 18)

and yeah i want a place on my own.

so i need advice/tips...

i am thinking unfurnished.. cos it is WAY cheaper.. and my mom furnished my sisters appartment and so i played the 'treat your kids the same' rule and so she would be furnishing mine bsaically..

i hear unfurnished gives you the tenant alot more rights? and furnished can have u booted whenever?

so yeah any advice be it from usa or uk.. on moving out on your own.. things to consider.. things to remember?

Thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Pack your toothbrush amigo; never let plaque and bad breath take hold.

    What is rent for a small place where you are at?

    Over here where I'm at, a friggin studio apt can be 800 a month. Horah for Orange County and it's insane house payments. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Some of the houses aren't even worth a fraction of that lol.

    Your girl and yourself should come down here and stick with me! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    lol para, i would but you may get upset when i leave tyre marks on your hood <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    and down where i am.. it is the like in the top 5 richest towns to live in apparenrlty around ?650 per month which is like $1300 us.. so yeah your talking big bucks

    but yeah up where my gf lvies.. it is just so much cheaper... iup north just is.,. its not any worse.. or any nicer.. its just cheaper dunno why really...

    but yeah i got offered an unfurnished place, ?50 a week. including leccy and water bills. so ?200/$400 a month. for that.. and my mom basically doing the main furnishing for me... is an awesome setup... but that one has gone bad cos somebody got to it just before me..

    i want advice on things like... should i ask them if i can drop in a cable line? should i go unfurnusd cos of the better roots etc?

    Well as for the pricing.. I really can't give you any advice on that for I tend to pay a lot less for the same as someone else has in the larger cities..

    However as for the furnishing.

    I would go unfurnished, with the exception of the major appliances, i.e.: Fridge, freezer, oven, perhaps a dishwasher or garbage disposal.

    Other then then those you can have your mother furnish it with whatever basic sitting/sleeping requirements you may need. Some apartments/condos/etc have microwaves in them as well, but since I never used mine I really didn't need it.

    Oh.. try to make sure there are a few lights in the place that you don't have to put up yourself. It is nice to know all you have to do is change a bulb and you are ready to go instead of going out and buying all your own lights.

    Well, thats my two cents.. so have fun and good luck. It is very enjoyable to move out for the first time or to just plain move as long as you find a place to suit your lifestyle and living conditions. :-)

    If you left tire marks on my hood, I'd wreck your bike or have you arrested for vandalism. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Should always check to see if you can get high speed internet access before you move. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    lol
    I wouldn't move to a house where I couldn't get cable. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Good luck, mate. I haven't left home myself, and I keep wondering about how I'd do it, myself. I imagine it takes a lot of courage, so good on you.

    ive only moved up as ive gone to uni, so its not really moving out as i still go back home at holidays etc.

    but technicaly, if you have a tv, you do need a licence, otherwise if the man with a van that has aerials sticking out comes round your area, its a £1000 fine : /

    that said you might be able to get away with it. but if you dont its pretty expensive <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Off topic: You need a license to own a TV – as in a television? Really? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Back on topic…
    I think you asked about lights – that was the one thing I had to go out and buy when I moved out – none of the rooms (besides the kitchen) had lights.

    Go unfurnished. When you move in you’ll probably have to pay a security deposit (which you probably won’t get 100% back, no matter how wonderful and spotless the apartment is when you leave </shakes fist at previous landlord>). If you get a furnished place that just means a higher deposit and a higher chance of them keeping your money.

    Hmmm… What else… Moving out of your folks’ house is more expensive than you think – you have utilities and groceries (groceries is a biggie that I didn’t even consider). Make sure you have enough $$.

    Good Luck…

    Its not that you need a licence to own a TV, its that the BBC doesnt have any commericals on it. At all.

    So in order to fund it, the public pay for it. In the form of the TV licence. It goes back to when they (TV's that is) were first being used here I think, when the BBC was the only TV station. You need to have one if you own a TV, because if you dont your basicly stealing from other people. They also cost different amounts depending on whether it's a colour TV or not. Ones for colour cost something around ?100 for the year i think, where as B/W are a lot less. I can't remember the exact amounts.

    So basicly instead of having a show that fills an hour's time slot but with 20 mins of ads like you have in the US and other places, BBC channels are the length specified, with something like a 2 min break in between shows (so you can put the kettle on), with no breaks in the shows themselves.

    I have no idea why its called a licence though, as you dont need one to buy a TV. BBC contribution would be a better name IMO. Or something similar
