Problem With Bittorrent

I've searched for ages, yet i have yet to find anywhere which can fix this.

When i try to download anything with bittorrent, after a while my computer freezes, then after about 5-10 secs it unfreezes for about 1-5 secs, then freezes, then unfreezes, then freezes etc.

I have scanned my computer for spyware/adware (with AdAware and Spybot )and for viruses (with AVG and that Trend Micro thing) and no matter what it finds and i remove i still have the same problem.

I have a Athlon 2400+XP overclocked to 2600+ speeds, 512mb DDR PC2100 RAM (two sticks of 256mb), 512kb cable connection, and my firewall is Zonealarm.

Does anyone know of a solution for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What version of BitTorrent do you have?

Latest core version is v2.4.2 (<a href='http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html' target='_blank'>get it here</a>), but I'd recommend BitTornado (formerly known as "SHAD0W's experimental" builds) which you can get <a href='http://bittornado.com/download.html' target='_blank'>here</a>.

yeah the old BT 'official' client had a freeze problem with my PC, though I didn't find that happened with any other clients. I settled with <a href='http://azureus.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>Azureus</a> for my torrenting needs ^^

I've tryed the standard Bittorrent client, G3 Torrent, BT ++ and a few more which i can't remember. All have the same problem.

I'll try BitTornado in a bit.

I could be thinking of something else, but I remember hearing that BT++ was particularly troublesome for some reason or other. Something about not using some standard... thingy.

Anyway, I've never used anything but the core client, it works okay for me. Except for the fact that for the longest time now, things come in really, really slow for some reason. Probably something to do with my stupid router. :/

My problem with BT is having it just reboot my computer whenever a download is almost complete.
