Ns On Counter-strike?

<div class="IPBDescription">Help. :(</div> I'm trying to get a friend into Natural-Selection. He can play Counter-Strike on his computer, and has it installed, but no Half-Life. Just Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike is not patched and at version 1.0.0.0. He's trying to install NS 2.01 because Steam is the suxx0rz.

The problem is NS installs itself to C:\Sierra\Half-Life\ns
He never had a Sierra\Half-Life folder, just Sierra\Counter-Strike

The "Launch NS" executable on my computer links to:
C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console -numericping

I can see where that would be a problem for him, because he has no hl.exe

If he patches Counter-Strike to 1.1.1.0 (or whatever is required for 2.01 atleast) what directory does he need to install NS to, or what does he need to change the command line to?

Thanks in advance.

[EDIT]:
In addition, under the Start > Programs > Natural Selection 2.0 menu, there is no "Launch Natural Selection" program. There is a "Launch Dedicated Server," however.
I also tried making a shortcut to C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console -numericping

And that didn't work. :/ It gave me a Half-Life screen / background but with Counter-Strike options.

[EDIT #2]:
Careful examination of the install doc reveals that he must patch to 1.5 CS and install to the CS directory.
Ohwell. Don't suppose there's any way to delete this thread? :x

I would have settled for a long technical fix. It's going to take him four days to download that patch.. XD

Using steam would be a much better option methinks...

His problem is that he bought Counter-Strike years ago and doesn't have his CD anymore, so he doesn't know his CD Key. You know how well that goes over with Valve and Steam. BUY A NEW CD KEY / YOU STOLE YOURS! Steam sucks, anyway. He got 2.01 to work, but now ASE isn't registering the game. (All-Seeing Eye, best browser. So much leeter than Steam.)

he can figur eout his cd key easily by browsing the registry..there are also programs available to dl(i personally wouldnt use one) that will tell you what your cd is

if you knwo anyting about computers and the registry than search around the registry in hkey_local_machine or hkey_current_user in the software sectin and brwose to valve i believe and u shoudl be able to find the key in the cs folder..it might be in the sierra/cs folder also

as i have steam installed i cant look for where the the key is on my comp since steam doesnt store it locally

perhaps some one else who still has hl retaiol installed could point u exaclty where to look
