    <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.exe' target='_blank'>http://www.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.exe</a>

download...if you are on broadband you can download HL or whatever if you haven't installed, if you've installed half-life already it should convert it for ya...

and yes you do need steam to play <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> well atleast 3.0 and on

    it says it doesn't have thirdparty mod support(me and hl do not get along appearently <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

so what else do I have to download?

sorry for asking so many questions

what says that? I was under the impression that all HL purchasables supported 3rd party mods (at least the 3rd party mods that don't rip off a bunch of info from HL)

    Reinstall Steam

Make sure you install NS Beta 1, then patch it to Beta 4, and it should work. If you still have Steam related problems, contact the support team through e-mail (not recommended - they don't respond much) or take a look at their fourms.

should work I have half-life platinum edition and it worked fine..if worse comes to worse uninstall half-life completly, uninstalll steam, reinstall steam and just download the games off steam instead of off the cd's <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm wondering..you might be getting that if youinstalled half-life then natural selection and then steam.

Make sure you start up a game of HL to make steam download some crucial files. Then you should be able to install NS without any problems.

Did this myself a little while ago:

    1) Install Half-Life
    2) Start Steam Installer
    3) Run Steam and start Half-Life from the "Games" menu.
    4) Just click proceed until Half-Life works on Steam and you can access the in-game menu.
    5) Install Natural Selection beta 1.
    6) Patch it with beta 4.

Voîla, and wasn't even hard. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> If it still gives some error messages, you'd better start from scratch and try again (saves headache).

Yea, but what directory do you put the nsp folder in? Steamapps?

Also, in case I'm retarded ( <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) am I right in assuming you have to update ns AFTER you put it in the directory?

    Major thanks.

    C:\Program Files\SteamApps\youremail@yourdomain.com\Half-Life\nsp

Is what your structure should look like. (Though that's off the top of my head, either way it should reside in the half-life folder.
