<div class="IPBDescription">Omg...Best.Browser.EVER</div> I just downloaded the free version of Opera Web Browser 7.23 and I will never go back to IE. It has so much stuff...easily 10 times as much as IE and its all for free. I can pay and get my <i>one banner ad</i> removed, but I think I'll keep the free version for one banner ad.
You get all this FREE with Opera:
<ul><li>Great web browser</li><li>Free E-mail client</li><li>Tabs, not the taskbar for web page management</li><li>The option to close all windows but the active one (good for getting rid of many popups)</li><li>Easy to use interface</li><li>Ability to download skins for your browser</li><li>Pics up where youl ast left off before you closed out of Opera</li><li>Much Much More</li></ul>
/NOTE: I AM NOT ADVERTISING OPERA!!!

You do know Firefox (and all Mozilla projects) are free and open-source, right? And no ads?
That...was a mistake.
Does it automatically block pop-ups?
Can you block pictures from certain webhosts?
Does it have plug-ins to customise it?
Can you get a plug-in to block individual images, flash/java animations and other unwanted stuff?
If not, then I think I'll stick with Firefox, I'm just spoilt by mainly ad free browsing.
It starts with most of the basics provided by opera except perhaps mouse gestures but there's a handy-dandy plugin for that. Heck there's plugins to make it do things you wouldn't have even imagined... like a community-based random website selector; it takes a webby from a database collected from sites recommended by yourself and others then crossreferences it with the sort of things you've given the thumbs up to previously using that to work out what to show you. Think launchcast but for websites I suppose ^^
All of them suck.

No Doom, it's the internet that sucks.

..Well, okay <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> You go on loving IE. But remember that Firefox will still be there when IE screws up irreversibly for the umpteenth time.

yes or all but requested popups. Like fileplanets"pop up" downloader
I use opera mainly because of its browsing ease (the mouse gestures are the best part imo) but then theres the whole problem of compatibility, and its problems running flash and javascript... etc.
and then I use avant browser for the websites that need flash and javascript, etc, but it doesnt have the good mouse gestures! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Man, I hate to sound like an advertising agent all over again, but <a href='http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/' target='_blank'>Firefox</a>. It's got flash and javascript and whatever you need, and you can get mouse gestures easily.
no, its just that there are things that other browsers offer that you are missing...
i wasn't having (that many) problems with IE, but I switched because opera could do everything IE could, but better.
after switching completely to firefox with mouse gestures ad aware picks up 2 to 5 things every month.
seriously.

I've changed my default browser to firefox, which I just downloaded.
but I cant get it to do tabbed browsing by default. when I click a link in the bookmarks, it opens it in the same page... which I don't want. how to get firefox to open new pages in their own tabs by default???
Downloaded it again, and loved it right away. It was <i>incredibly</i> fast compared to IE, never crashed, had a much better interface (IMO), and the mouse gestures were a godsend. I've never heard of anything like these mouse gestures before, but now that I've been using them I can't imagine browsing a website without them.
And to this day, I'm still using Opera. I'll have to give Firefox a try, since so many people say it's "better", but I can't see how it can get any better than what I have now! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Open a new tab beforehand. I don't believe there is an option to open bookmarks in new tabs by default. If you're wanting to open a normal link into a new browser, click it with your middle mouse button.

I have both Opera and Firefox on my computer (and Internet Explorer, but that's obvious). Opera would be much better if I had the money to remove the ad banner. I prefer the way it runs the tabs to Firefox: I can change the size of each tab without changing the full window size. With Firefox, the entire program must change size to change the window size of the tab.
Mostly Firefox wins my vote for ease of use - the problem it has right now is that it's too arrogant for its own good. Internet Explorer doesn't follow "standards" set by the equally arrogant World Wide Web Consortium. It reads what's written on the page and spits it out as best it can. For many elitists, this is wrong, because it only encourages laziness in web designers.
But the problem is that Firefox doesn't accept that standards should be followed, while still allowing for some sites to "catch up" to today's standards. Instead, it decides to break the page, displaying it incorrectly because it doesn't follow the strict guidelines of web standards. The Mozilla group has been advertising Firefox as an alternative to Internet Explorer. What new Internet user would want to download a browser that not only requires extensive modding to get it to run like Opera or Internet Explorer, but also only displays half of the sites they're used to viewing fine in Internet Explorer? Is Firefox an "elistists only" browser, or is it for new users as well? Mozilla hasn't seemed to figure that out yet.
Firefox fans often cluck over Internet Explorer's botchy code, and how Microsoft has influenced the growth of the web both with its browser and the WYSIWYG editor Frontpage. While I can understand that many strive to make a standard of editing for all websites to follow (thus making browsing easier), the fact of the matter is that at the moment, a standards compliant Internet doesn't exist. Sure, there are niches in the web that follow the guidelines, but there is also quite a bit that don't. Opera accepts this, and displays many of the sites similar to Internet Explorer, while keeping a tighter grip on security. But Mozilla had to take it one step farther!
Now I have to play hot potato with my browsers, switching back and forth to view sites that don't work with Opera or Firefox. I never had to do that with Internet Explorer - it displayed everything the way I wanted to, and usually the way the designers intended. Sadly, because of security issues, I couldn't continue with Internet Explorer. If it wasn't for that, I think I would continue to use it. I want surfing the web to be easy, not a chore. Opera and Firefox have served to make my browsing more secure, but I'm not sure if it's any better. The frustrations have simply changed subjects.
I think I have to agree with DOOM - as of now, there is no "good" browser in existance.
Oh, and if you download the tabbed browser extension for Firefox you can change pretty much every aspect of the way tabs are handeled.
