No, marines just need to keep a skulk in aim for a fraction of a second it to be enough to kill, when skulks need a few seconds to do the same

well the obvious thing to say is just to practice a lot...

but it's very important to remember that the skulk is supposed to be stealthy... hide in vents til marines pass, cling hidden to ceilings til they pass, use your walk key to make no noise and sneak up on people... learn to bunny hop and move really fast, makes you much harder to shoot... watch how other good skulks play when you're a marine, use the techniques that kill you to kill marines when you're an alien...

And not to forget bhopping, I won't say a word about it considering hax/or not, I see it as a benefit when being skulk, but I gotta practise that too I guess, to be a better skulk..

I know its lazy to ask, but does anyone know links/or have demos of bunnyhopping skulks?

Find a pole, or a box, or something, in the middle of a room. Go FLYING around that thing, and keep hitting it. Try to keep in complete control while doing so, hitting it 75% of the time. (Looks and sounds stupid, but it works for me =P).

Also, try toying with your sensitivity. If it's at 13, try lowering it to 10 or 9. I usually run at 5 now, after running it at 18 for a while.

Try adjusting your chair (armrests are the devil! The devil I say!), it does make a difference of sorts.

Try playing with the sound low/off for a bit, loud noises tend to make it harder to concentrate on what's going on =P

Important!: When you bite at a marine, learn NOT to turn your view a bit. I see almost every single skulk/fade/lerk send their view flying to the left/right whenever they bite someone. If you can avoid doing that, it'll help enormously.

When you're running towards a marine, bounce until you get to him, makes you quite a bit harder to hit.

And finally: Spectate good skulks, or watch demos of them. See how they play =)

I know what you mean, I used to be absolutly terrible as skulk (still not that great, but I can have alot of fun playing as them). One thing I found my self doing when I first tried playing as them (and was the cause of most of my deaths) was that I'd run streight at my target to try and get there faster. Even though the distance is was usually short, if they saw me I was toast because only it takes something like .8 seconds of LMG fire to kill a skulk (assuming all the bullets hit, which isnt too hard at a streight moving target). Once I started zigzaging and jumping twards my target, my kill/death ratio improved alot, because it was dificult for them to keep a steady stream of automatic fire on me.

me23's idea about the runing around a stationary object to practice biting sounds good. I think I'll try that as I still have some trouble with that.

Also as some one already said, stealth is very importaint. Almost all of the kills I get, I get by laying ambushes and you can often pull them off without geting shot at all. Just go some where that you know the marines are going to go though, and get some where where they cant see you (doorways work great, alot of marines check vents that they walk near). As soon as one walks by, drop down and run up behind them and bite them. You can always hear them coming from a mile off, so its not too dificult. Just make sure there isnt another guy behind the one you're folowing, or he will probably fill you full of lead. I've noticed geting the silence upgrade helps out with this, as they wont hear you when you run up behind them. The speed and focous upgrades can also help out.

Don't hit bite all the time, since it blocks your view, which makes it harder to go after marines.

i learned how to bhop by playing cs 1.5, tfc and vampire slayer.

lol

I believe the better way to learn how to bhop actualy, is by playing TFC.

people are saying that learning how to bhop isnt possible anymore. That's totaly false. But of course it's harder from before cause most of mods killed the bhop by making "after-jump-slow" ^^

Also by the reduce of speed gain by using strafe while in air.

Dont be afraid od escaping when attacking a marine especially when you got leap, if u escape the marine will prob reload so just jump back when he thinks he's safe.

When wainting for marines in the cealing and you hear more then 1 coming dont attack the first 1 if he dosent see you wait for the last 1 to run past you then get down and attack.

Silence/cloak, focus and celerity are a very good combo with skulk, well i find it so

I read some bhop guides, and I came up with a question after it,
Is bhopping done by only using the strafe & jump key(s) and by turning the mouse?
because I noticed I began to notice things called "sliding", like making one very fast move, but I can't keep it up.

True bhopping does not use the forward key. If you continue to hold the forward key while trying to bhop, you will never achieve top speed. So to answer your question, yes.

bhopping just uses the left and right strafe keys and you need to make the mouse a U or a ~ while bhopping. It just takes time to master, but bhopping is not everything anybody can kill a bhopping skulk. The skulk is supposed to ambush and be smart. Just download some demos of some of the top clans demos off of Amped News to get the correct movement down. I suggest getting a demo from an exigent member (best bhoppers in all of ns)

Also, make sure you hold crouch at all times.

crouch might not be the best idea at first, the reason for it is so you don't cling to walls and such, and so isn't a must, but it can help

Pick out good ambush spots, use strafing to your advantage, and other things.

Most notably, don't hold down your attack button, that's just a waste. Pick your bites out carefully, because just one single missed bite can mean your time in the spawn queue.

And make use of the extra speed you have over marines. If you feel it's a wee bit too slow, take Celerity with you.

And while we're on the topic of ambushing, ambushes work very well with Silence (except when they have motion tracking)

And last bit of advice : Try to vary your jumping times during a rush. Nothing sucks more than having a static jump patter and having the marine mow you down due to being too linear.

And my personal advice? Play with their minds a bit.

Yep, I really <3 it when I go after 3 marines, and do random jumping around when biting them all to death, now THATS fun >)

though the bhopping way, that is only using strafe/jump/mouse movement, is a bit hard to get used to, but doing it a lot will make me learn it.

Silence will help you greatly in game. You will be suprised just how much marines rely on sound.
Much better than cloak imo

Practice . I find that after a week or so of not playing and getting back into the game again, I can shoot at least halfway decent, but skulking still takes me a long while to get used to again. Try getting leap-focus in combat and going super skulk. Great way to get practice skulk.

most importantly, don't run towards marines... especially not more then one of them unless you have silence, or you can try to bhop up towards them. still, bhop doesn't make you invincible, and it takes some distance to gain up good speed. even the best clannies ambush > head on attack.

run around the walls can help, but will only make you an easy target for experienced marines. works wonders on most pub servers tho. finally, don't hold down bite. think of it as "burst firing" your bitegun.

crouching is necessary for bhopping as skulk, its the only way to maintain your speed. Yes bhopping is simply jumping, strafe buttons, and moving your mouse in the same direction as the strafe key that you happen to be pressing at the time. You said you got good speed off a particular movement. Take a second look back and analayze what you did to go faster, then try to mimick it until you can reproduce it every time. Thus is the key to the bhop ^^
• mcrwvdmcrwvd Join Date: 2003-10-18 Member: 21756Members, Constellation
Bhopping is easy to learn, just try to hop without using your forward key, you will get it after some time, then read some Guides to master it.

on this b-hopping thing...do u only press straff when u hit the ground for like a millisecnod or what? or hold it the whole time u in the air? i just seem to start moving sideways. can't seem to maintain a forward motion

im just starting to try it. i seemt o do alright without b-hop but if mastered i think it could add to my game

Not true for skulks and gorges. If you strafe turn as you would in the air without jumping and turn at a proper rate you can get up to ~151% normal run speed before even taking of(eerily close to the speed you get from "wall-strafe running", you might even suspect there is some obscure connection between them...).

The maximum speed you can reach is ~170% of normal run speed(as you can exceed 170% while in the air, the air speed cap is for horisontal movement and it is 300% of normal run speed) but as soon as you land you get set to 170% of normal run speed again, going in a slightly crocked path as you do while bhoping the distance you travel is slightly longer so it's hard to be precise on the top speed.

So basically a single jump is enough to get allmost up to full speed. Don't just run forward and then start jumping that would take alot longer. I find the best way to start is to turn roughly perpendicular to the direction I want to go and then strafe in that direction and turn quite quickly, turn to fast and your slowed down, turn to slow and you don't gain much speed.

There are bots(for example rcbot for marines and aliens and whichbot for aliens) and they have evil aimbot aim once they spot you which kind of messes things up and they are really poor at dodging you. Set them not to wait for orders and they should run out and rambo around the map.

When you are holding strafe in any direction(even forwards and backwards and diagonally) and turning your mouse causes your horisontal velocity to turn while in the air you are gaining some speed. You can bunnyhop sideways and backwards as a result but it isn't very practical.

When fades and onos are crouched they will have a much lower treshhold for how fast they may turn in the air without slowing down. When blinking don't duck if you need to turn.
