I have no idea where that's from.

What kind of anime do you want to get into? Serious or Comical?

If comical, go for something like Ranma or Dragonball (NOT Dragonball "Z" just Dragonball"

If serious, Gundam is a popular choice and one of my favorites!

I hope you're referring to Universal Century series and not the craptastic After Colony (or is it After Century?) Gundam Wing.

Gem called it - If I was starting in Anime I'd want something a bit more substantial than just a trailer tho. I like to use this site to get a general idea of how good a series is:
http://www.animetempy.com/
If anyone knows a better review site - plz bring it to my attention! The layout and organization is what I like about the one above.

Serious stuff:

(Oh and I like Dragonball so watch your back fool! j/k)

Gundamn (Wing)
Ghost in the Shell
Cowboy Bebop (Semi-serious, has some comedy but well-placed)
Akira

...

Those are my favs that you might like.

The new appleseed anime is totally CG, it's been mentioned a couple of times on the board before. It's in the future after world war 3 (or whatever they called it) and follows two humans (well, ok bri is a cyborg) as they come into the new utopian society from the wastes of the outside world which still lie in ruin from the great war that ravaged the face of the planet.

check out the trailer here... http://www.a-seed.jp/trailer.html

It would appear to be Briareos, looking at it. But since they're partners, i find that unlikely.

However, he definately looks like the action figure Briareos and i have a DVD video of Deunen and Briareos fighting in what looks like a really early render for the new movie.

I'd recomend not trying to find an anime excatly like another one. There's so many different kinds out there that if you limit yourself to something you've seen before you might miss out on great series that you might have really liked.

Blue Gender is very serious, I've not yet seen anything comical in it from the couple of episodes I've seen.

Evangelion is a great anime, very cool and actiony.

Cowboy is comical/serious, its an awsome, awsome anime. That would be the first to pick up if I were you, I love it.

well if we're talkin WH40k..

the first thing i thought of was space war. war.

so macross is the closest, i'd say.

Sonic, they're right, you did have a closed mind. I used to hate anime because I all bothered to watch was a few minutes of Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z.

But you're right in this case, I only like about 20% of anime (sci-fi/action serious type), the rest I hate with a burning passion.

[edit] But when anime is good, it's good, especially Cowboy Bebop. [/edit]

New Ghost In The Shell film I saw a trailer for.
(It had a clip of someone getting shot in the arm
in a grocery store and he was holding some dog-food
or something. I don't watch this stuff often but the
animation itself fascinates me)

EDIT: It's called Ghost In The Shell - Innocence

I can't see a WH40K style anime existing anywhere, since the Japanese are more into high-tech futuristic mechas with swords and jetpacks than the gothic, "gritty" feel of the 40k universe. Although i'll admit the Tau blur the line between anime and 40k a little...

Blue Gender is a great anime for serious viewers, it my favorite, but it's quite bloody, so be forewarned. We're talking people-in-half bloody. But if that doesn't bother you, it's a fantastic anime.
