Oftentimes, when the server is changing maps, or when I try to quit the game, hl.exe completely HOSES my CPU, and I have to kill the process to make my computer move anymore. What's the deal?

Newell, GG with the post as well.

    Maybe it's downloading CS:CZ?

No, I stopped it from doing that the first time it popped up.

PS: Besides, this isn't lag, it's got nothing to do with bandwidth. We're talking CPU soak here. Something about Half-Life is taking my clock-cycles and banging them vigorously in the colon.

What are your specs? CPU Clock Speed, RAM, etc.

It's a known problem that a lot of people are having. Wait a week for steam to release a new update that will do something worse, like reset everyone's username to Player, or autodownload all the supported mods.

Word is that using the "quit" function in the console will replicate this problem every time. Try just hitting escape/quit.

And the crash-during-mapchange is an oldie-but-goodie. That was the big problem when 2.0 first went to the 2.01 seam beta - essentially, it would crash at every mapchange.

So I recommend you just sit down and wait for Valve to make it all better - there's really nothing else you can do <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    quit

    or exit

Either or do it, you just need to do it when NOBODY is using voice comms and it won't crash/lockup/seizure/whatever

Odd bug, yes. Reminds me of the jointeambug from closed beta D:
