<div class="IPBDescription">And what you stand for.</div> Hi all,
This is directed to all the Vets, CM's, old schoolers, random bods who've hung around for ages, 1.04'ers, whatever.
We've all seen a lot of 'OMGZ0R HOW DO I BECOME TEH VET?!?/111' etc etc, and the general trend on the forums lately has become a little nasty. I know you're tired of it, and just like the 'Use the search' nastiness that became present quite a while ago, it's easy to jump the gun and come down hard on the guy.
This is a reminder of what you stand for. That high postcount, or early member no, or CM badge, or Vet badge, as far as the new person knows, means <i>you are somehow part of 'NS'</i> That's NS, the whole community, not a dev, whatever. People have, and always will make snap judgements about a whole group based on their experience with one individual (I'm hoping I don't need to give examples, but consider the NS opinion towards the CS community, and you'll see where I'm coming from) and that nasty reply just from impatience of seeing these threads repeated will <b>cost us players. This new blood is what keeps NS alive.</b>
The developers graveyard is littered with the games that should have succeeded but didn't due to playercount, and do you want to feel your actions contributing to NS going the same way?
Basically, try & be nice. I know it's hard, and the random guy will ALWAYS click Gen.Disc first rather than New Player, but that's how people tick. I know sometimes I need to, and I think a lot of others need to reflect on their posts before clicking 'Submit' too.
Thanks all,
Shockwave

The admins do thier job and they do it well but they shouldnt have to lock posts or delete foul language, we as a community need to show respect to other people even if thier questions are pointless or useless. If your going to answer with a quite witty arrogant comment just dont bother posting in the first place +++ postcount isent everything.
Show objective views to the opinions that have been put forward not just the normal pointless comments that have no affect on the thread they are being posted in.
Well now im off my high horse, very high horse i just want to say treat others as you wish to be treated yourself.
For example, if I wasn't being serious I would respond to Shockwave like this:
"Be quiet shockwave, we know I'm superior to all of you"
But I'm sure to a newcomer to the NS community you wouldn't realize that.
Part of learning the NS community is learning to lighten up I guess.
Bleh, I take ALL forum posts (Not just NS's) with a grain of salt. More often its a brick.
So you people with the medalions it's up to you to set an wxample for the newcomers, so that ns dosen't just turn into a sophisticated cs.
If a ww2 soldier is now 95 years old but has no purple cross or any other achievement awards but was fought in almost every battle, does that not still make him a veteran?
Besides, the vet term don't mean much now, it used to mean that if you were a vet you were the best of the clanners (or some of them) but it don't mean crap now.
Being a vet means you get special access to the forums and a cool icon, that's all...
People will relax as they settle in & get to know various people. I'd like to consider myself not amazing, but above average at NS, but if I ever catch myself saying 'pwned' or suchlike to a player <b>I'm not already on familiar terms with</b>, (I stress this because I do it all the time when playing with people I know, but we also scream 'H444X!!' at everything too, so there you go.) I shall stab myself in the left eyeball. With a rusty spoon.

Indeed. The Vet Icon pretty much means diddly anymore. I don't consider a Veteran Icon holder a Vet unless I know them.

The only time I ever really spammed pwned was in TFC, I regulared on this one server, and one of my friends was ALWAYS on the other team and he was eighty-million times better than me, so when I got my fourteenth cumulitive (meaning total for all time) kill on him (Scout vs. Solly), I just totally flipped out and held a party and shoved a big sign up his ****, post first, that said 'Pwn3d' on it. Well, not really, but still... I said pwned once or twice...
Since NS, I've been a bit more sober.
