Speaking of start menu related things. Does anyone know how to change the word "Start" to whatever you choose? I've done it before but can't seem to remember the process. I know a resource hacker is involved :-\ and that's it.

umm, what version of windows? (same goes for Otto honestly)
....
hmm, there was the version where it was possible to 'close' your start menu (get it selected ussing tab then altF4 it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
Not sure if this helps but hit F3 while in explorer or Win+F at any time to open the search window.

Are you talking about the "Start" button on the Windows XP theme? (green button on the blue bar?). If so you can't change that without changing the bitmaps in the "C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna\luna.msstyles" file.
Running Win2k. I was asking because I started using Litestep and the theme I'm using doesnt have the find function, but it does have a run prompt which I can use.

and just about ever bit of windows you could want is in the system32 folder, things like the command line defrag util, and the clipboard viewer, etc etc. i looked for search and find, but they didnt seem to be present. you might wanna take a look.

Comments
Windows key + R = Run command window
Windows key + F = Find window
the search function for windows is built into explorer, and thus to get at it you simply open explorer.
The find files/folders options simply launches an explorer window already configured to start a search for you.
so the comand would be explorer
