An Idea I Got Yesterday

<div class="IPBDescription">A commercial for Grand Theft Auto 10</div> This is an idea I got yesterday while listening to some music by "The Crystal Method".

It's an idea for a commercial for grand theft auto 10. It's intended to be completely without sound effects and is only synced to a song. So it's sort of like a music video of sorts.

You *HAVE* to be listening to "The Crystal Method - Wide Open" for this to make any sense at all. Otherwise it's just a bunch of junk and doesn't convey the right mood. And if you are listening to it, you'll probably have to read and resync the song quite a few times. But I still think it works well when you get the idea.

I'll just post what I have so far.....
====================START TEXTFILE====================
Commercial idea for some distant future version of grand theft auto.

Done entirely to the song: "The Crystal Method - Wide Open"

NOTE: This is a build-up sequence that is intended to look like real footage, not any kind of computer generated effects (except the hologram of course).

See a man (think michael douglas in "falling down"), sitting at his desk in some sterile cubicle environment. Start with a closeup of the eyes and back up slowly to see the bland cubicle wall behind him. The man staring blankly just above the far end of his desk at nothing in particular with his hands out on the table palms down doing nothing at all, totally motionless.

20 seconds into the song, when the drum beat kicks in. The man's face suddenly perks up to stare straight out horizontally at the wall, but with a more deterministic expression.

Flash into an eye-closeup, dilation and contraction of the pupils takes place. After 3-4 seconds, back to the on-the-desk cam. Slow-motion of the man getting up and walking away from his desk.

Don't show the interior of his office building at all, but a few seconds after he's walked away from his desk, start a new shot from outside the front doors. The doors and surrounding area are made up of that completely reflective dark-mirror glass. You can't see anything inside the building at all.

Outside, the weather is gloomy, but not raining quite yet.

The man, still dressed in the "I'm a blue collar nobody" button-up t-shirt and tie, slacks and plain shoes, walks up to a nearby (why not just place it right at the front of the parking lot, right next to the door) convertible car with it's hood down (whatever cool car fits your fancy) and proceeds to place his hand on the driver side door and do a hop into the driver seat.

I know that the car doesn't fit the income, just bear with me.

The car quickly peels out and is out on the street in no-time (at no time should it ever have to stop for a stop-sign or another car's right-of-way).
At the 39 seconds mark, when the new sound comes into the song, Flash to a shot of the man in the car, out on some freeway. He's in the carpool lane (and no, he doesn't even pretend to have a passenger) and is passing everyone else that's stuck in gridlock. We all know that even the carpool lane is slow during gridlock, but for the purposes of this, the carpool lane is wide open and he's all by himself in it, going 80 or some obscene speed for rush hour.

As slowly as possible during this shot, make the weather go from gloomy to sunny. We don't want the audience to actually notice the change if at all possible.

59 seconds in, it better be completely sunny in the freeway shot by now. We do a time skip, now we're far far above the car and at a 45 degree angle behind it. Following it along a desolate desert road. The road and desert just go on for miles and miles and he's just driving along it. Have the sun be relatively close to where we see the road dissappear into the horizon.

1:18 into the song, the car is driving along the strip in las vegas (it's now night time, but the weather is still good). The road isn't empty, but the sense should be that the car is still moving at a leisurely cruising speed without having to stop for others. Maybe just having other cars *happen* to get out of the way.

1:38 in, he pulls up to the front doorway to some casino and hops out of the car (slow-mo) without really concerning himself with the usual details of parking. He immediately walks to the back of the car. The trunk mystically pops open while he's on his way to the rear end.

1:41 in, flash to a shot looking down into the trunk. Make it's contents take up the entire shot with the edges of the trunk just barely visible at the edges of the screen. The trunk is full of guns, ammo, and explosives. The man walks to the back of the trunk and is now smack-dab between the camera and the trunk. He's reaching in and doing something we can't really see.
He puts a strap over his shoulder and around his neck. Move the camera to the left side of the trunk so that the casino doors can be seen in the background. His hands emerge from the trunk holding a minigun which he carries with stunning ease and dexterity. He places his hands in such a way that he could fire at any moment and turns towards the casino doors. The camera following his turn and zooming to a closer view of his face.

1:47 in, The mans face loses all expression as his lips move as he's obviously muttering a word. The word itself is "save", but that doesn't necessarily need to be obvious to the audience. Switch to a shot just behind his left shoulder, just far enough back that you can see the beginnings of his right shoulder. Without explanation a 2 dimensional holographic image appears in front of the man that simply says the words "Saving Progress" with a progress bar. The saving is overwith as soon as the song lyrics "I have been informed, that it's totally wide open." are done and the window dissappears.

Flash to a closeup of the face from the left side of the man. Mostly focusing on his left eye. The eye quickly squints in a look of deviousness, revenge, and hate. Orangish white flashes(gunshots from the minigun) quickly light up his face. His expression not changing one iota.

1:57 in, camera shot is from just beside the mans left hip. We see the edges of his left elbow, perhaps his belt, and a large section of the underside of the minigun, still ablaze with gunfire. Speed the shot so that the music syncs well with some rythm in the gunfire.

2:07 in, Switch to a shot where the camera is off to the man's left side and in front of him about 4 feet, slowly zooming out to be around 10 feet in front of him by the time we hit 2:16. Looking directly back at him. We see the busy street behind him, and nobody seems to notice that he's obliterating this casino. He slowly starts to walk into the casino (this starts at the 2:07 mark and the zoom out is independantly timed), the camera staying in the same position relative to him. His walk should seem *completely* unencumbered by the weight of the minigun. As the man keeps walking forward and the camera along with him, all we will see is the destruction that he's left behind. He should look like he's looking for and tracking targets with his gun, but we'll never actually see him shooting these people.

Use your imagination to change up the mayhem a little bit if you need to.

At 3:13 he's going to get gunned down by the police, so have them come into the shot in slow-motion just a few moments prior to this time mark. He gets shot in the back and completely by surprise. His face losing it's expression again.

3:16 in, Close up of his face and upper body as he slowly falls face forward to the ground. The minigun not getting in the way at all (in fact, make it mystically gone if at all possible to do it smoothly). Slow motion fall to the ground.

3:21 in, zoom in slowly to get an extreme closeup of his face. We want to see his whole face and almost nothing else. Blood splatters and stuff if it seems appropriate.

3:25 in, now completely zoomed in on his face, he mumbles the word "load" (again, not important that the audience know the word). Have his face light up with the color of the hologram from 1:47. If at all possible, try to hint to the idea of a progress bar moving by the reflection in his eyes.

after the "totally wide open" lyrics finish at 3:30, do some kind of haze/blur/smoke effect (use your imagination). Now we're back, and we see his face the exact same way we did after the save at 1:47. Zoom out quickly to show his whole face and a bit of the background. A devilish smirk on his face. His face lighting up with orangish white flashes again.

3:33 in, fade to black

3:35 in, fade in the rockstar logo and other advertising materials to buy this game. Fade out the music before it gets to 3:45.

So, yeah, there you go. Because I know you all care about some idea for a commercial in the future.

It is very creatively typed (despite the fact I've never heard the song. I think they could actually make that for the next or sooner than GTA10 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

Only problem I see is a commercial that's 3:45 long. The only applicable venues would be theatres, and then you still might be pushing it. Commercials generally come in :15, :30 and 1:00 (really long ones).

Still cool though...they could make it a secret unlockable video or something.

    pffft, a detail <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I kinda figured that by the time they make gta10 that they'll have those things from futurama that broadcast commercials into your brain or something.

Or a short term solution is that this would only be displayed at demo stations that you see at places like Electronics Boutique.

This could be a trailer at the cinema. Force those little paying customers to sit through the entire show <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

Maybe it could just be a game trailer, period. One that's released on the Rockstar website and everything.

I haven't heard the song, but that sounds awesome.
