"Katana" literally means "sword." Any sword. What you want to call it is either "ninja-to" or "samurai sword" [which you don't want to, since it's not curved].
Samurai swords are curved so it's harder for them to break when hitting hard surfaces. Sometime some thousand years ago, an army returning from war had most of its swords broken because the soldiers kept slashing instead of stabbing, so somebody designed a single-edged curved blade that wouldn't break made of steel folded many times more than the best European blades.
Many of the best ones were made of a soft, pliable metal that would easily bend, but had a much harder steel barely inlaid at the very, very tip, which was sharped to make the edge. Harder steel there meant it would cut, rather than fold on impact, while the softer body meant it wouldn't snap if it hit something hard.
Ninja swords aren't typically curved because they were just cheap pieces of metal used as tools, rather than being their souls, as samurai swords were to the samurai. They could be pounded out in a hurry and didn't matter.
The "hilt" is the base of the blade, where it meets the guard, hence the term, "to the hilt." Not the place where one grips it.
The pommel should be elongated and the holes in the blade would feel better along the back of the blade, rather than the front, but that's just me. Blood grooves are usually on the back.
That is a nice pommel, though.
Samurai 3000. I've wanted the whole set for quite a while, now... But they're so expensive.

Tekken 3 might have been new but I really doubt it. Being this game is Circa 1993 I think.

In reference to the model
I'd put those Style holes or whatever they are on the non impact portion of the blade because that weakens the metal and it would be more prone to breaking...(but hey its a model)
Looks nice, BUT if you want it to even slightly resemble a katana or a "samurai sword", make the hilt longer. A lot longer. And i liked the curved blade...Nice model though, doesn't look comfy, but i'm not the one who's going to hold it.

Wakizashis and Tantos on the other hand...

The 'puzzle' bits, cant be rounded, for polygons sake, and because the angled shapes would look very silly if they had curved edges..
