where does this come from?
I often see the expression "Holy ... batman!", and I often laugh without really knowing where it comes from... so would anyone enlighten me?

The original Batman series, I'm guessing. Robin was a little ******.

It's something along the lines of what Robin would say to Batman.

"Gee Wilicurs Batman!"
"Holy Smokes Batman!"

Or "Heaven's to Mergatroid!" but that's Snagglepuss.

It's just people trying to be cool.

Only the Government can censor you Thats just a bit of editing to encourage you to use advanced grammar to express yourself rather than resort to obscenities.

Example:
I could say: "Holy **** Batman!"
Or I could say: "This is unexpected."

I think dr. d is trying to reference the male anatomy in his post... not exclaiming.

"Holy chunks of stone Batman"

"What?"

"These rocks, they're huge chunks, with holes in."

"Oh."

Best tribute line ever put into a film, ever.

Ah yes, classic batman does rule. I used to watch that who every friggin day. My favorite Robin exclamation has always been "Holy Squirrel Trap Batman!"

And Adam West also owns.

In centuries gone by (like the 1600s), the taboo words were blasphemous words. There's a cunning reference there or someone was doing their homework.

Little known fact: Robin was not enhancing or padding or anything of the like. When the TV show management warned him that his cod piece was far too distracting, he thought it was a joke because he hadn't been padding it at all.

Later when they almost fired him for it, he kinda started taking measures to provide the illusion that it was somehow smaller...

what a champ, rofl. "HOLY CODPIECES, BATMAN!"

but essentially, nobody answered the initial queston.

"holy ____ batman". when something remotely important something happened during an episode of the show, robin would say "holy (molten lavas/grappling hooks/inverted turtles/cave trolls/solar plexuses) batman!" in reference to the event. if a pelican was swooping down on them with a beak full of wet cement, robin would have said "holy avian cement mixers, batman!!"

Don't forget, that when you go out, to take your Batman approved Shark Repellent with you, you never know when it will be helpful....

On another note, was it appropiate for the old robin to have no pants?

I don't know what I'd think of it if I saw it now though.

I'm not even old, and this makes me feel old, I await the day I get a blank expression from a kid when I tell him I liked Final Fantasy 2 on something called a Super Nintendo.

Fun side notes:

The Holy ________ Batman lines are also ussed in some of the original comics.

The Eminem Song - Business (don't bring up the whole "I hate rap" thing) has a slight Batman theme to it, especially the start:

*Morse Code*
Dr Dre: Marshall, sounds like an S.O.S.
Eminem: Holy whack unlyrical lyrics Andre, you're ****ing right!
Dr Dre: To the rap mobile, let's go!

Found it kinda funny tbh

I heard that expression used on the simpsons. I think Bart said it to Milhouse.

I also found it funny Batman always gets whatever he needs from the Batcave. Everything happens to be labelled perfectly too.

"Batcave Magnifying Glass"
"Batcave Computer"

...it's like Batman and Robin were senile and could never remember where/what anything was.

Adam West is much funnier on Family Guy, because he plays himself...crazily.
