<div class="IPBDescription">Because of steam...</div> Well as you can see, because of steam, I can NEVER play half-life or its mods again and I love playing FPS online so heres the question.

What FPS should I get (MUST HAVE ONLINE CAPABILITY)? I was thinking Unreal Tournament 2004 if they make it.

Why cant you just fix steam. If u can run UT2004 ur PC should have no problem with steam. Maybe tell us your problem. Battlefield 1942 is an awesome game. it also has some wicked mods.

Ut2k4, and Battlefield 1942 are actually the only game "platforms" for mods that are even slightly popular.

Have you tried Battlefield 1942? It's a pretty huge online game (it has 1st and 3rd person views)

EDIT: Beat me to it ^^. While I'm here I'd suggest getting the Desert Combat mod for BF1942. It's my second favourite mod.

Why? If steam won't work for me, then clearly I'm gonna be wasting my money on UT2004 (cause it ain't gonna work) so maybe Battlefield 1942 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Er, why can't you play HL because of steam anyways?
Its not like they changed the game.. okay, they did, but they made it better in doing so...
    For the most part.

If you can't run UT2004, you're not going to be able to run BF1942.

BF1942 has the worlds largest collection of lamers, noobs, and idiots I've ever seen. We need to replace the Desert Combat files with a program and floods nerve gas out of your computer. The world would be so much better...

Steam rox ur box. Or my box at least. You could try your hand at GTA: Vice City, go old school with Deus Ex, or new school with Deus Ex 2.

And if you don't like Steam that much now, I advise you to cancel your pre-order on HL2.

    Or you could just get used to Steam <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Pay on admined servers, good admined servers, not where they ban you for 0wn1ng an admin. WWII games generally have more lamers for little or no reason, and I'll just

Stay away from UT2003 or 4. I got UT2003 and I played it like twice, bleh. sucksville. But hey at least the engine itself got some use from Unreal 2 and Splinter Cell.

BF1942 rocks. Its a truely great game that everybody should try. Yes it did have a rough start the first year it came out but so did HL's multiplayer (though I doubt many of you were around to remember that).

Its also the #2 multiplayer game out there (HL being #1 of course) in terms of number of people playing and servers. So you won't have any trouble connecting. Some people say the netcode is horrible, but it works great in my experience. Hell I've played on 64 player servers w/o much lag at times.

And when BF1942 came out it did require a bit of a system to run, but now that its a year and a half old almost it shouldn't be a problem (cause if you still can't run it you need to upgrade anyway for new games coming out).

So yeah, give BF a try. Its awesome.

Oh and its got a really great mod called Eve of Destruction (google for a link). Very fun Vietnam-themed mod. You may also wish to try Desert Combat as its the "Counter-Strike of Battlefield" so to speak, you may like it. I do not however, as just like many other realism games/mods they put realism before fun...

Also give RTCW: Enemy Territory a try if you haven't. Its 100% FREE, so its not like it'll cost you anything.

I dunno doom, I didn't like ut2k3 though the engine is very nice and I'm still considering ut2k4. The new game mode where it's all out war with two bases, vehicles and capturing things inbetween before you can finally eliminate the team's HQ sounds extremely promising =o
