Login Message

<div class="IPBDescription">steam => gg console messages</div> Now that we've switched to steam, the custom login messages displayed to the console are gone or at least invisible. A lot of times servers would use them to newbie-bash, but it was nice to have some feedback from the server operators too. Even though I don't run a server myself, I think that they helped to add a sense of community to each server. It'd be nice if Natural Selection (or metamod, if it's possible to do this in it) to add a standard intro message with an "Ok" button, like what shows up when you first log in to a counterstrike server. eg. if a server has a policy of kicking people named "NSPlayer" when the server is full (or whatever), it'd be nice if there was a way to communicate that up front.

I believe what you're referring to is called a "consgreet". I have been ironing out so many other issues since converting to STEAM I haven't even started on plugins yet. Who's to say it won't work in 3.0?

Hopefully Flayra will fix the MOTD messages with NS so that we can use them instead.

Motd.txt works but it is limited to 192k (really 191k) in file size. I dont think it is NS though, its steam. If the file is any larger when people connect to the server it will crash with the file size msg. I to would like to have the consgreet back <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Not sure if this might help but maybe try a "redirect" for the motd.txt.. we had an error some time ago that gave us overflow errors as we entered so we couldn't connect, but thats for DoD.. not sure if it would help any for NS..

As far as I know, NS motd.txt doesn't do html or link to images etc. It just displays the html code as text. I would love to see a DOD/CS style MOTD in ns so we could use html/link to images for the MOTD.

Yeah, such a MOTD would be great.
The current small white text in thebottom isn't really a match for the good old consgreet/conmotd we could use in WON. I'd really like to show our players a short overview of our server rules and some infos pn the clan/server.
