Well, MS Paint r0x0rs. YOu can't go wrong with it, but one reason the sigs look good is cause they're limited in size, unlive other forums.

BTW: The GIMP is free and pretty good from what I hear.

Gimp is basically an open-source version of Photoshop, rather like OpenOffice is an open-source version of MS Office.

If Gimp's as good as OO is, I'd definitely recommend it. Haven't tried it myself, as I have PS7.

Also, if you want to try and trade your soul for a signature, ask in here

actually, id like to try my hand at image editing, i jsut gotta wait for my new pc. (should get it soon) my dad is totally weird about me installing stuff on our machine, so ill just wait untill the whole "get new computer" thing works out.

Cool...

Yeah, about GIMP, there's a few filters I cant figure out how to duplicate from Photoshop, but other than that, it pretty much is utter r0x0rn3ss.

It's also, from my experience, a tad easyer to use than photoshop, and, I think, a bit more system-resouce friendly...

But that could jsut be because school computers=###.

The GIMP, IMHO, is a bit less user-friendly than Photoshop. But I don't feel like springing any cash, so hey, I'm stuck with it.

Nope, here it is totally legal. Demo though, who cares?
• BTS_SquirrelBTS_Squirrel Join Date: 2002-09-27 Member: 1351Members
yeah i know, i did that. but the trial ranout. andit ont let me re-install.

ok, well, it will let me re-install, but i cant run it.
• VoberVober Join Date: 2002-03-27 Member: 356Members
yes yes demo, just keep telling myself that. Anyways using PS7.0 I made my siig and avater by myself in a few minutes, however ask on the sig topic place. There are more badass artists who hang around NS too long and sit and make sigs-check forums-make sigs etc. Ask and you will get a few sweet sigs to choose from(I think they compete )
As for me I am proud of my homemade stuff even if it sucks compared to thier stuff.

MSPaint > Photoshop

I was trying to edit a crosshair sprite... and it was taking me months with photoshop because of all the crazy transparencies and stuff... then I did it in 1 minute with MS Paint. I'm NOT kidding.

Photoshop = Professional work for professional quality
MS Paint = Quick and dirty

MS Paint is just about perfect for situations where you want to have control over each individual pixel, which is useful especially when dealing with fairly low-tech video game art(sprites and the like), but you would be insanely hard-pressed to make a good-looking sig image or the like using MS Paint. It's just NOT gonna happen

Actually, I find Photoshop much easier. It has higher zoom levels, configurable cursor styles, much greater colour control and layer support.

For instance, you can do this in Photoshop a lot faster than in Paint.

A screenshot with a female marine? I seriously fear that is really hand-made by fam... I know that PS makes alot of things easier, but still this looks like a HUGE amount of work...

Drawn pixel by pixel, then with one extra layer too add the lighting effects. Some of the textures were done using the limited pattern ability in Photoshop, but most of it is done using either the line tool or a one pixel pencil tool. I never finished it though, due to it taking slightly longer than my normal methods. Oh well. Doesn't look too bad, perhaps I may make another one day. I certainly love the style, we shall see.

Squirrel: This is not the Gimp help forum. We have not helped you because we cannot help you. Good luck getting it to work though.
