Problems With Steam

For some reason when ever I open halflife on steam it crashes, it doesnt load the hl screen fully just the splash image. I tried repairing steam, I uninstalled steam, deleted the left over steam folder, and reinstalled it yet again. And still the same problem occures. This is keeping me from any games that use hl. So I need some help maybe some ideas as to what to do next?

I don't want to be rude or anything, but this thread is most likely going to get locked.

Oh, and most problems with steam is solved with some patience. Try opening monitor to see if it is downloading something that is nessecary for hl to start. If so then all you have to do is wait.

They never help you at the steam forums.

Every now and then this happens to me too. The menu background image appears then HL.exe caused and error and it crashes. I just reload straight away and it works fine. I have no idea what’s causing it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

People DO get helped at the Steam forums. "Never" is a strong word. I think the major problem with people who go to the Steam forums is that they don't help themselves. (ie. they're too lazy to search for the solution) Posting redundant threads will only get you ignored, obviously. (well, for the most part... some are kind enough to post the answer again and again)
