<div class="IPBDescription">Help Someone Please.</div> OK for the past night or 2 i've been having some oddness
regarding the site's i'm visiting. For some reason i KEEP getting
"Page Cannot Be Displayed" even though I know there's nothing
wrong with the site itself. (At one point I was completely unable
to access these forums.)
At first I thought maybe the sites were just getting high traffic
and struggling to load, so I sent links to Red Vs Blue, Planet Half-Life,
these forums and several others to various people on MSN and asked
them if the pages loaded.... they all did. Crap <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
So I did a clean up using Ace Utilities. The Reg was cleaned, the
pre-fetch was cleaned and the temp files were removed. This seemed
to make no difference what-so-ever.
Next step was another Browser. Step up the latest Mozilla build.
I configured a few options and launched Google as the Homepage.
But thats pretty much all the luck I got from it. PHL, RvB etc all refused
to load.
Next on the list, a Windows Update via the Microsoft site. After installing
about 7 new "fixes" I restart my machine to find they've not helped at all.
(DAMNIT!)
Up next, a Spybot Search + Destroy scan. Update the includes files, scan, remove
3/4 dodgy cookies. No difference made <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
What's next? Oh yea, Anti-Virus Update. Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Pro gets
its updates via the Live Update, installs them, restarts my machine and
asks me nicely to do a full system scan... oh go on then.
40 minutes and some SplinterCell via the X-Box later we finally have some progres..
A virus has been found in my applications\java folder. No problem, Norton
says its been fixed/deleted. Hooray!
(I think it was called femad.b)
The Natural-Selection forums and RvB load nicely and i'm happy!
I wander off to play some Day Of Defeat with the [=LS=) guys to celebrate.
Upon returning from being a sniper-**** I find that a few of my other favourite
websites are now refusing to load also.
I'm at the end of my tether, I bit the bullet this morning and installed
the latest Radeon 9000 drivers as a last resort.
I can't think of any other way of narrowing down or solving the problem.
Any idea's? I know it seems like a crappy and small problem but its annoying
me and i'm convinced there's a virus or trojan in here somewhere.
If i'm still having hassles this evening then i'm going to burn all my
Natural-Selection 3.0x beta files and various other needed files to disc
and format the drive. It's not worth the hassle otherwise.

ok, there is your comand line now:
when ever you have problems with a site pop up the comand line and type in:
ping site.name.here
if you get a ping back , ok you can go to the site just hit f5 (reload)
if you don't get responses:
tracert site.name.here
this will then show you the path your pkts are taking to get there and back.
find the bad hop (the one that has alot of lag or just dosn't respond) thats where the problem is.
This probably has to do with a flaky connection somewhere along the line you take.
if you can regularly put it down to a few hops (or specific areas like clevland or NYC or something) call up your ISP and talk to them. Explain that you are often having problems with your connection and give them all the info you can. Ask if they can do anything (they probably can't but it don't hurt to ask <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

i'm afraid. I came home from work early and threw the XP Pro
disc in and went ahead with the format.
Much appreciated response though, thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
