Xp Install Woes

<div class="IPBDescription">X(</div> Arghhh...
Well after having reformatted I'm off to install XP on my master drive.
Right now I have both of the drives on the same IDE cable and the jumpers set to have the 9gb(5400 rpm) as master and the 40gb(5400rpm) as slave. When the computer starts it detects both of them with the correct sizes/manufactures/etc. Then of course the Windows XP CD boots and it asks me to do some things(agreement etc). Then it tells me to pick which HD I want to install windows on, I choose C:\(the master one) then I choose to format it using Full NTFS(as opposed to the quick format). It makes the partition, then copies the window install files onto the hardrive. So far so good. It then prompts me that windows has to restart to continue setup and that setup will continue after it has restarted. It counts from 15 to 1 and restarts. Then it boots again, does scans the hardrive, then boots from the CD again, and now instead of starting to install the actual windows XP, it just goes back to the partition menu. The HD I selected originally is now missing 500mb (the pre-install files I guess) but now if I select it, instead of maybe continuing setup it just asks me if I want to format it with ntfs/ or ntfs quick/ or keep current file structure. If I choose current file structure it justs asks me if I want to overwrite the current install files copied there... If I say yes it re-copies the install files, then restarts again and comes back to the same problem. Same thing with the other choices except they reformat first... So, what am I missing?! Is there some way to boot from those install files? How? Did my hardrive suddenly die?

    If I understand you right:
Go to BIOS and set your primary boot device from CD ROM to Hard Disk (after you copied the installation data) so it can boot up the installation from that data.

The Maxtor 9gb one has somthing wrong with it, but when I set my original one on its own cable and everything it is working perfect now.
