I downloaded steam... 800 meg woopy freaking doo.

I tried to get the patch.

Doh, CD-key invalid... WTH
Try again... What do you mean invalid? I bought this game legit for 50 bucks.

Must be that damn roommate last year that sneaked my half life copy out and install it on his comp.

So do you
A: Forget half-life and NS, there's sun shining outside of this room.
B: Go get a damn new copy.
C: Wait for HL2 and forget the first half life.

First, WTH is wrong with you, DLing the 800mb Steam.
Why didn't you get the basic Steam?
Second you know what you must do!
Go and spend that 10 bucks on a new copy of HL, you can't stay away from NS!

If you still have the Original CD-Case and CD They will give you a new CD key, if not go get HL stand alone for $9.99

The only reason I still have HL is because of NS. once HLDM died out and DoD got butchered there wasnt much point...

That's my second guess also.

My roommate borrowed my copy, saying he wanted to play on the Dorm's lan. The next thing I knew the whole dorm is playing counter-strike.

Well the semester has started, and I thought about not getting a new copy.

Your problem is zig, you posted this in the support/help forum. No one worth beans ever goes to the help forum. Best bet is to post in the general forum, let all the CS kiddies flame you for posting in the wrong forum, get your question answered by someone moderating the caotic mess, and then NEVER going back to that forum again (because it sucks horribly, obviously)

1) Take digital photo of your jewel case with the CD-key in view, maybe one that has a picture of you in it too for good measure.
2) Black out a few letters in your favorite editing program.
3) Go bother Valve's appropriete department. The email is somewhere on the steam website.
4) Either get a new key in the process, or get rid of the guy who's squatting your key so you can use it again.
