Recommend Me A Mouse Please!

(For gaming - not furry variety plse)
I have just broken my left mouse button after extensive fast firing with the pistol playing NS. I plan to buy a new mouse, I am leaning toward buying a logitech MX500 optical mouse with tail.

Anyone else have this mouse and like it? I was also thinking about the MX700 but am put off by wireless mice not being responsive and in a flight of fancy even considered the Boomslang Razer (Now produced in the UK).

What do you guys and gals think?

I have a 500 and I absolutely love it. Its almost exactly the same as the 700 but costs less and is wired.

Thanks m8, I like all the extra buttons as well. Do they work in game for you?

I did not download the software they gave me ( mx700 here), so all but three buttons work ( Well, two buttons act as mwheelup and mwheeldown, and the third one can't be changed).

Microsoft Intelimouse optical (wired) - 5 button one.
It's the best mouse I ever bought. I'd recommend it to anyone - it has yet to fail me.

Its AWESOME, but I think I need to get a new one.
I spilled PLS on it and the right button sticks now!

I second that. All the buttons are directly recognized by HL in the config menu as mouse4 and mouse5. XP autodetect it without any driver. They are cheap and last for long. Ships both with USB and a PS2 adaptator. I prefer the wired version so i dont have to change batteries/have interferences, and when it fall from my desk theres something to prevent it from touching the ground

Edit: no, i don't work for MS

MS mice are actually really good (at least their optical ones) I had a wired optical trackball. Really comfortable, responsive, and all the buttons worked in HL with the drivers installed. Lasted for about 1 1/2 years before it crapped out recently. So now I'm back using a default USB plain 3 button mouse. Need to get a replacement...

I'm leaning toward the MS optical intelimouse now - its half the price of the MX500. Is the MS one 3 buttons an the leaning mousewheel?

I was thinking about the cheap "old" one.

    This.

No leaning mousewheel, just four normal buttons + clickable mousewheel (so its 5 buttons) and you can also bind two commands to mousewheelup and mousewheeldown so its almost like a 7 buttons mouse.

Just bought one for my wife (yes she play NS) for about 25 euros (thats 30$ or something like that).

I use the dated Microsoft Optical Intellimouse, it's optical, has 5 nice big buttons (1 extra on either side, so 1 finger to a button), it fits my hand well, responds decently, and the keys are all mappable. Works great for HL, bind the extras to mouse4 and 5.

You can't buy it retail anymore (maybe, but not likely) however there are hundreds to be found on eBay (search.ebay.com) for $20 MAX or the like.

It's been my mouse of choice for 4 years.

NOTE: I know this mouse is old. It still is a soild mouse that works great for me, I don't need you telling me that it doesn't have a 412663654 dpi like your Logitech 594386XXX does. I don't give a damn.

I read in a review that it scrolls the page left/right. =3

You can shift it left and right. Imagine the mousewheel with space on either side, which you can lean it in. Yeah.

Can't go wrong with an MX-500. I love mine.

wow... that's actually pretty handy =o

Everyone's been raving about the MX700/500 for so long I always thought i'd give that a shot whenever my old microsoft mouse finally gives up the ghost (been working great for 4 years now I think ^^ )

get an mx500 but use the drivers for the intellimouse. The driver defaults the side buttons to what they need to be to work in HL

I'm with the Intellimouse crowd here. Those beasts are durable, functional, comfortable, and dirt cheap, so why not?

    I agree. I love mine.

Big buttons. Smooth movements. The only problem is that if they make one, I cannot find a wireless variety with the same button configuration.

I was forced to get the more ergonomic new version of the Intellimouse. Tilt wheel, no wires and everything. Ill probably get used to having the thumb and pinky buttons moved to the left side of the mouse but I miss the side buttons

Wireless is worth it though. I could not stand getting my aim screwed up because of the wire. (I have 3 monitors which = very small desk area)

Does nobody use trackerball mice anymore, then? Guess I need to upgrade. I never look forward to the time spent cleaning (scraping) the innards of this thing out.

Another suggestion is a Wacom Graphire tablet.

It comes with a wireless, batteryless mouse. A bit more expensive than a normal mouse and only with the standard left right and wheel buttons. But its a pleasant one to game with. That and you get a graphire tablet out of the deal.
