<div class="IPBDescription">cus I can't</div> Ok, I just got a new 120gig seagate HDD for xmas (wee storage space again <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

So I pop open my computer and I am faced with the problem that my IDE cables will NOT be able to connect my drives the way I was hoping (HDDs as masters and cdr/dvd drives as slaves)

So I now have my first HDD as primary master and my new one as primary slave.
My DVD drive is Secondary Master and my CDR is secondary Slave.

Both hard drives are running under ultra DMA, My DVD drive is Ultra DMA and my CDR is DMA (not sure if it was ever ultra DMA)

Now my problem is that alot of things seemed to have slowed down (games not running properly anymore etc)

So what I am wondering is if any one has any ideas (and if you want more system specs I will provide what I can)

Win2K
AMD 1.1gig tbird
256megs ram
geforce4 Ti 4200
SBLive
30 gig Quantume fireball
120 segate
Plexter 12/10/32
Liteon DVD

    Your HDs should be primary Master and Primary slave. What chipset is your mobo (intel, via.. ect)
    Your Media drives should be Secondary Master and Slave your config looks good

    you might need to install a large storage driver or INF update for your chipset.

    I would try disconnecting the new drive for a while first and see if that helps. If not, try the CD-ROM drive. If not, try the DVD drive.

    ok, I don't know all that much, so what is that all about and what should I do about it? (looking into mobo atm I think It is a Via)

    yes, yes it is a via chipset (I think my mobo is an abit KT7 with a via kt133 chipset, note the use of THINK, I aint positive <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    The scientific meathod is for WHIPMS!!

    Ok, so I fixxed it up, everything is running better, however I just did 4 changes in 1 shot <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    1) Updated my VIA 4 in 1 drivers
    2&3) Removed the new HDD and my CDR (the 2 slaves)
    4) Lowervered the comps temp (opened a window and disablaling the drives) (my guess is that this wasn't it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    so, off to statrt plugging in drives <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
