I wonder if the HL engine supports asian signs anyway, it doesnt even have the few German letters äöüß.
It would probably take major changes to include Asian signs in HL.

I don't know why in all these games I#ve seen (even some of them are german) that letters are missing. Pretty frustating to write something and only half of it makes it to the others.

Have you ever played NS in Korean servers ? Unfortunately I dont like them.

Why?

Because Korean NS players have habit to press F4 too early.
It is not rare that they press F4 just because "they have 3 Hives" or "we lost 2 Hives".
In any other countries in the world, I have never seen such servers where F4 is encouraged.

If you say "You are lying" "You just hate Koreans", go to Korean servers.
You will rarely see a game where they dont press F4.
Almost all games end with F4 in Korea.

In adition, Marine vs Alien win-loss ratio is too biased for Marines in Korea.
I can say Marines win more than 70% of the game from my experience.

I am not a racist. I just hate F4 habit of Korean NS players.

And you've also got a point, half of these people don't want us here anyways...bah I wonder what their schools are teaching them. The younger generation isn't thankful for the U.S.' help in the Korean War. If you've ever seen the riots here, all of them Highschoolers to College students.

You are probably an American or European who never plays NS on asian servers.

I have been playing NS mainly on asian servers (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore etc..).
I often go to US, Australia, NewZealand servers too.
Sometimes go to European servers.

I am saying from my experience.

Last, I'm backing Bizzy up on this totally. They don't report the anti US sentiments amoung the young koreans over here on the news. It's really hightened since the accidental death of 2 korean girls when they got run over by a tank. They hold these gatherings at the train stations and outside the bases. They throw Molotov cocktails and rocks and **** all the time. They kidnap soldiers and force them to do anti american videos at their protests. ****, hold on I have a picture of the korean soldiers that have to be standing guard full time to deter these attacks. and this was only once side of the the curb.

That being said, I've had mostly good experiences when I was there. The older Koreans know about the way North Korea treats people, and the young ones are just idealistic about rejoining the peninsula.

And about the gamers. Every lan cafe is filled with players playing starcraft, or ragnarok. and there are often 2-3 cafe's on a single block. It's a freaking gamers' heaven. It's less than a dollar to play for an hour. I think they do often quit, but not because they are poor sports, but because they are eager to play again. But that's enough stereotyping for me.

I think it's the highly competitive society, coupled with the focus on team work in most games. While Koreans tend to pick up on things very quick, the prefer games that allow them to act alone; If they screw up, they want it to be their fault. NS does not appeal to the majority of Korean gamers, since a lot is dictated through teamwork; Gorges need to build res towers, and commanders hand weapons down to players.

Many new players that speak the language have trouble understanding the game's concepts, and a language barrier only isolates people more. This doesn't seem to stop gamers globally, however; English is the current official language in all but a few games now.

CS Differs from NS because, while CS was probably intended to have "missions" that require team work, most of the CS player base would rather call their teammates sexuality into question than work with with them. Of the hundreds of games I've played, few actually used teamwork, and when tehy did, the opposing team was decimated (Teamwork, in this sense, is more than "Rush right" on de_dust).

Starcraft is about one person controlling the entire group. I never bought a copy, as I gave up on it upon launch (I suck at micromanagment ). It's not right to use this to gague Korean gamers, but my experiances included "OMG U SUK FOG!", followed either with the resignation of that player, or his change of battle plans, decinding that his ally would make a better victory.

Diablo 2 follows the trend; You run around for hours, picking crap up. In a world where gold is worthless, requests for the in-game currency of choice flood the chat ("You giev SOJ??? ^_____^" - Quote from AzNsExY_SSJ). There is no compelling reason to share items, and so no one does.

So to recap, I don't think it's ignorant to say that a majority of Koreans prefer games where they can be alone, running free, doing their own thing, as the society appears to be naturally competitive. I think this is what the person I am quoting is trying to say.

I sincerly hope no one is offended by this post. These are my dealings with these servers.

I'm a Korean (and able to speak/understand/read/whatnots Korean)...

I would say once word about NS is out in Korea, it'll become rapidly popular, as someone above said, NS looks like CS + StarCraft.
Note that StarCraft has "unofficial" Korean hack that renders all game's text into Korean. It's called HanStar.
Not sure about CS though.

Koreans however, tend to like to go 'solo' on games. That's why they have hard time playing western MMORPGs like EverQuest that require true teamwork (or be owned by even LV 1 monsters), and don't understand why there aren't 'HP pots' that quickly regenerate your HP. 99% of all Korean MMORPGs are designed so you can solo, and fill up your HP/SP/Mana/Whathaveyou with some potion. They have difficulty in teaming up with people they don't know (or don't care).

Koreans also have flaws just like every other civilizations or people do. I can probably list them all here, but that's not a nice thing to do.

Anyway... Koreans are not ungrateful for the US support in Korean War. It's just that after that, the ways Americans treated Koreans weren't really nice as they show on the newspapers or whatnots. I have a over 600 page book that deals with Korean history after Japanese left Korean peninsula. It told a lot of 'shady' acts some of the Americans were doing to make sure 'democracy' sets in (kind of like today's Iraq situation)...

Also, Koreans are generally upset over President Bush. They liked President Clinton, and generally liked Americans back then.
They do not dislike individual American themselves. They just seem to dislike Americans as a whole group.

Lots of riots nowadays deal with corrupt politicians (there is never a day in Korea without some news going this and that politician did this and that)...

In my experience, most koreans dont take games seriously. What i mean is,they like to screw around and have fun.Even if it means **** others off. They just dont take playing online seriously....they love to do things they consider funny.

I would have thought NS,with all its "funny" possibilities, would be a HUGE hit for koreans.

"Look!I spammed 3 CCs at start!LOLOLOLOLOL!!!".

Im not going to go into the full array of examples.

Ontopic again : Why a specific korean version?I dont get it.Dont they teach english in korean schools?Whats the problem...cant they understand how to play?

I take back what I said. After seeing Nem 0's project to make a version of NS in all those languages, its only fair that Korea get included. Before I just thought that you only wanted a single version just for koreans. And that to me seemed wrong since there were many other foreign nationalities that learned to play NS without any sort of assistance. But in the end I suppose it would help boost popularity, and that could only be good.

korea is the only nation in existance that has telivison networks devoted to one game. I'd say there is a percentage of every population that likes to screw around with stuff and **** people off. But koreans have taken it way farther on the other end of the ladder than anyone else. Korea is the only nation on earth where you can come anywhere near close to making a living as a professional starcraft player. suffice to say, you dont become a professional starcraft player by just screwing around the whole time.

I'd be more than willing to help convert it to a Korean version by translating text.

I was born here in Oklahoma but my father is American and my mother Korean so I was raised knowing both languages and am pretty good at Korean, course English being my main language lol. well, that and d00d speak w00tnezz =P

Just tell me exactly what you need done and I'll see what I can do, it'd be a real pleasure helping along the development of this awesome modification to HL!

You can contact me at my e-mail address listed under this forums accounted. Just dont want to list it publically here hehe.

Sincerly,
