Your reasoning is pretty dum (sorry no other way to explain that) just because octopus is not octopi doesn't mean jack. What about fungi? What about stimuli? What about alumni? What about bacilli? What about Rhinoceri? (which is more like an onos than an octopus)

Correct or not, 'oni(i)' rarely comes up in-game. On the other hand onos is called whenever any onos is sighted.
@nthony: in all your examples, none of them have singular ending in -os and plural -i. On the other hand, lots of words that end in -o in singular form ends in -os in plural. Mayhaps we should be going for Ono & Onos?
Well yes, I was aware of this (hence my post about plurals of nouns that end in a vowel following a constanent). And yes, you also are right in that in-game it is almost universally called Onos (for quick thinkg & typing reasons), however I have used Oni before too. <span style='color:orange'>Example: </span> When just about to die... its Onos. When hearing an Onos from around the corner.... its Onos <span style='color:orange'>However: </span>When safely inside base....its Oni. When waiting in Onos' stomach.... its Oni Also its almost always Onos because the first time you see them... chances are there will only be one (hehe... res wh0re). Its whatever suits you best I guess, like boxers or briefs (me = briefs)
