It doesn't prove any such thing.

If you want the popular press to stop blaming games for violence, try doing what has worked for a hundred years: be patient, ignore them, and they will go away. The press blamed comic books for child violence in the 1890's. They blamed radio in the 1920's. They blamed TV in the 1980's. They blame games now. They'll blame something next year. Don't be myopic. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah, but the problem is what will happen before it all blows over? Look at the PATRIOT act or any other such vogue laws... the subject matter may blow over, but the laws created by the propoganda could remain.

I'm pretty sure such laws were made about comic books in what.. the 50s? and it almost killed in industry in some respects.

Why the **** would you want the media to like you?
They are a leach and a plague on society, they play off our fundamental emotions to sell you **** and could give a flying **** about responsible journalism or truth in information. I would rather have the government delivering the news than corporate ****.

//wow, we censor some odd words here...

It's not that they don't like gamers...it's that they paint us as blood-thirsty mass-murders who are constantly frothing at the mouth screaming for the blood of a hundred virgins. Well...I'm like that, but maybe other gamers aren't.

The media hates gamers, the gamers hate the media. Screw them. Sucks that they don't notice our efforts, like the story of <a href='http://xtremepaintballcanada.com/vancouver/forums/index.php?showtopic=1544&st=0' target='_blank'>Fruit Loops</a>[Don't know if it's still active] is awesome too, but the Media doesn't care. Whatever, don't want to Media all over gamers because they're real nice because it's annoying and I know no one wants that.

I wouldn't say it angers or depresses me... just sorta shocks me. And not the 'surprised' kind either; just a low creeping horror that they could get such a detail wrong =o

On the other hand, I'm with the sentiment that it should've been done because you wanted to help the kids; not create an image. You could sit and get all 'OMG I AM TEH ANGRY!!!' but it's not gonna change anything if you flail your arms and get all hot and bothered.
In life you've got 2 choices; do something about it or forget it. If it really, honestly, eats at your core so badly that it drives you to fits of rage then honestly organise some sort of protest or other thing... don't just say you'll do it or 'mean' to do it, get out there and start now.
Otherwise, like me, if you're not possessed of a high enough opinion of those who blindly eat what the media feeds them and therefore don't care what they think just go play a game, hit IRC, go out or just generally get on with your life =3

    Words mean little without action...

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> The real problem is that such a game would sell 5 million units and be such a spectacular hit.

Visit a charity, sponsored by a video-game oriented Web comic, at penny-arcade.com/childsplay. Together, gamers raised $27,000 in donations, and over $100,000 in toys for a Seattle children's hospital.

Violent video games are not a corrupter of society. Lack of parental responsibility and media bombardment with violent images is the real source of the problem. Blame the cause, not the effect.

Have you seen what happens to sites and emails that are quoted on Somethingawful or maddox? Jesus, they come back begging for their sites or addresses to be taken down.

Anyway, onto the main point. While i agree that you shouldn't donate expecting recognition, it is kinda stupid that the media did get involved, but were completely wrong. Or maybe the school DID donate, but still, if you're going to state that a school donated $1000, why not state that thousands of completely anonomous people donated through a program organised by people who have been portrayed as "violent killers" and "dangerous members of society" in the past?

Hopefully my plans for the future will come to fruitation, and you really will notice someone fighting to get rid of the scapegoats, and it shall be me! muahahaha. Gotta get to somewhere in power first though, in one industry or another.

You know in South Korea there were some MMORPG'ers who died of exaustion after playing LITERALLY non-stop for a few weeks. One was found in a webcafe bathroom frothing at the mouth, IIRC.

You should ignore the media types, especially the American ones. They're the propogators of a fear and material possesion-based culture. Ignore them and complete the mystical circle of apathy. One day they'll shut up.

[edit] Wait a minute, I'm **** off. Vice City r0x0rz (see avatar) and it doens't make me kill people, only entities! Grr... [/edit]
