Reserved Slots Are Satan

So you are a competent player, you drop a few res nodes, and then save for onos. while you are off doing something the rines take down your 3rd hive, and are on their way to your second. omogmogmogmg onos saves the day! then you get dropped and your team loses. we must kill reserved slot holders!

it's even worse when you refresh a server list and see about 10 or so servers that are like 19/20, 23/24. 21/22, and you think "cool, this works out perfectly" until you try to connect to each and get "dropped due to slot reservation." it's such a f---ing wretched idea that causes so much more hassle than it's worth

Become a regular at a server then, get to know the other regs and admins, post on their forums and generally socialise with people, eventually you'll get yourself a reserved slot and you can be the one kicking people!

People and cats ! For fun !

But yeah, it's generally a good idea to have a "home" server that you're involved in. You'll get a slot and know you'll be playing with fun people.

reserved slots are neccesary and good!

I don't mind reserved slots that don't allow people in, but ones that kick people to "make room" do annoy me. I've been kicked numerous times as commander while setting up siege in a final hurrah in a close game...

and NS doesn't handle the kicks well, usually crashed and then wouldn't start up right.

EDIT: a lot of those kick the player with the highest ping, and that's usually the commander due to the commander view. it's pretty faulty and makes me a sad person.

Alwas remember that playing on other peoples' servers is a PRIVILEDGE, NOT A RIGHT!
Unless you are actually PAYING for the server you are playing on you have to obey the rules of those who do -> the server admin(s). If you don't like the way an admin handles things on his server then go play on another one! Whinning, complaining of ranting about server will not help you in any way. Have 2 or 3 servers in your list where you regulary play on and things will be just fine. Also quite a lot of admins offer reserved slots for people who play on the server regulary and show their support by idling in the clan's channel, getting other people to play on that server, showing good attidute and so on.
So again: do not whine about the ways admins are handling the server they are paying for! If you have a special problem with one server/admin, contact him directly!

While getting to know the admins and regulars at servers is a good thing, it's really hard to get done. Most of the people that have reserved slots in servers live by the person that owns the server and are friends with him/her.

People don't get handed out reserved slots everyday and that's why it's hard for many newbies to find a home server, most are full and are not willing to give out some of those precious slots. There are a few, like Redphive, that just require you to sign up on their site then give your Steam ID, or WON ID then you're in. The bad thing is, so many people have reserved slots in Redphive so most of the time the servers are full with people that have those slots.

Hopefully you can find some servers that aren't completely empty or full (which s a hard task, especially with NS servers) to connect to. If you can't, well, then you're pretty much screwed.

Well our reserved slots are very different. You can fill the maximum capacity on the server. And our reserved slots get:

Server
Forums Icon
Voteing Ability
Reserved slot of course

And starting tommorow on nsarmslab.com (When new site is announced) a donators login where people get exclusive custom models early and so on.

Only 6.95

Yes I agree, NS needs more servers or something. It seems everyone plays on the same few servers, and those have reserved slots. You get into a game, and then what do you know? Your kicked, one more bad thing about NS.

Also, admin's overabuse their powers WAY to much. If you even argue with them, most will kick/ban you. It's retarded, HL is really bad about that for some reason. I even got banned once for killing the admin, gimme a break.

reserve slots in my mind are a OK idea.

It's the whole problem that a server can put, like, 10 reserve slots onto a server that really makes me angry.

one reserve slot is necessary for a admin to join w/o a problem and then ban whoever is causing enough trouble for the admin to logon in the first place... two are semi-necessary so that then you can have two admins, one on each team. anything above that is absolutely a waste... those people whom have reserve slots are like getting one OR MORE reservations at the BEST hotel or the BEST [instert important place's name here] and then not showing up on the date of the reservation.

it just pis*es on everyone's day; but most importantly it pis*es on the day of those that didn't have a reservation and just walking in the door and said "do you have a open table?" only to get turned away and go hungry

It doesn't make any sense Beserker, its complete and utter Blue Shift, er BS. I have a nice cable connection that keeps me at a steady 256kbps with a high of 384kbps. I still hate reserved slots with all my heart. Just like Kann Nix, I coast from pub to pub with different names sometimes, though sometimes I revist the same server with the same name.

Someone stated earlier that playing on someone's server is a privilege and not a right. Perhaps so, there is nothing to refute there. But Admins who abuse their powers disgust everyone one of us, you as well I'm sure, if you have ever been abused even the least bit. The worst ones can take away peoples dignity, and no one deserves that. I had one run massive amounts of admin_execclients on me when I was just a newbie in Svencoop. Needless to say it was somewhat humiliating, though I wasn't the only one. Since that day, abuse of power has always horrified me.

So yeah it is our privilege to play on those servers, but all we ask for are good servers to play on. No one wants to abuse server rules or hack or cheat or anything else illicit, Slot Reservations are just annoying, all we can hope for is a stable LPLP server without them.

couldnt have said it better myself.

if anything add the slots to the player limit so that it goes eg 19/18 and such and so that ppl arent confusored when they cant get in, whats worse some servers dont tell you and you just sit there like a dumb ****.

ON my server I have 2 reserved slots, the type that just holds 2 slots, not kicks. This is ao that if there is a disruptive player, a top level administratior can get in to see for him self and then end the problem so that the rest of the players can enjoy their time at the server. And I will admint, we do have a problem admin that we are tring to "reform" instead of just pulling his admin. And When the pranks are pulled by admins, it is 99.9% of the time on other admins in the server (after all, what is the fun if your target can't fight back?) I even have a dedicated complaint page on my site. Now back to the reserve slots -- Think about this for a sec, here are the 3 possiblities as I see it. The public part of the server is full. Some one comes in with the goal of running the game for all. WOuld you prefer A) No reserved slots, so no admin can come in and stop this person B)Have Reserved slots that kick and have the wrong person kicked, just so the admin can get in, or C) Have 1 or 2 slots always open so that an admin can get in without having to have some one kicked and find out what is going on. I know that me and my co-leader watch quite often through HLSW when we are not playing, but at our computers. It is nice to have those open slots when we see possible trouble, then we can go in and investigate first hand.

Fileplanet is a business, and they need to make money. NSA is a greedy community site.

the thing is, w/ res. slots, server quality improves. Less newbs -- better players -- better server.

The worst part about reserve slots are the nub server ops who make it 24/25 and the 25th is reserve slot. They need to get with the program and use the one that kicks you when a reserve holder wants to join. Then you can use ASE or something to sit on the server. When they have that one extra spot you can't do that D:.
