    And if someone posts here to debate whether or not this is an absolute (which in the case of say, ns_nancy, it isn't really, but we've been there) I myself will ignore said posts and let this topic die, again. The whole decompiling thing is one of those topics that has been well worn out around here. So, do as GiGaBiTe says and just hush up about it. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    (If you want to look at some big, ugly, dead threads about decompiling issues, use the magical search function.)

    decompiling can be usefull for checking how someone did their entity settings.

    Nothing more.

    If you're going to rip a level by decompiling it, you're best to go in a corner and die.

    If you want just to see how entities were used, you do not need to decompile the map. Decompiler is only needed to decompile map geometry.

    well, actually u do need to decompile it to see entity work. I dont think decompiling is so evil. If someone wants to steal ur map, why the heck would they recompile it if they could just take the bsp and edit the readme? Most ppl arent thieves anyways, just ppl inspired and curious. I would be honored if someone wanted to decompile one of my maps to see how i did something.

    No you don't. Open it in Notepad and you can read all the entities and their setting. It's a bit tricky to find them but it's understandable.

    well i dont like copying people's maps as there is no fun in that,
    when copying a map i can't feel good about myself cause i know i did a fraction of the work on it,
    the only thing a decompiler is handy for is to look at how a mapper did something if you cant find it anywhere.

    so if i would ever get that decompiler on my hdd i wouldn't even want to use it to copy someone's whole work <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Hmmm it's not like me to say something against a fellow who opens stuff in notepad
    I mean cmon, we all know notepad ownes all textprocessors <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    But... Aw man I just can't say something bad about notepad <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    *Gathers all his strength*

    Wordpad opens it much more readable then notepad still I have no idear how the Windows XP
    notepad handles it since I checked it out in w2k.

    There I said it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Btw checking the entity settings isn't a bad thing me thinks. Also wouln't a decompiler mess up the brushes and textures so one can't really use or copy it? As some sort of copyright protection for a mappers hard work <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> (I centainly hope it does <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> copying)

    And now it's time to let this thread R.I.P. Or if some1 else wants to say something <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> for me it's bye bye thread

    there is nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING!!! that ypu cant find out with a little effort.
    I personally think there is no need for decompilers anyway (exept the ns_nancy case, the only real cause!). everybody should develop their on style on maps. sometimes I think this people asking for decompilers are too lazy to read ANY tutorials (not even the basic tutorials).
    ...
    if you want to create a serious ns map, take your time.most of the "decompiler kings" dont know anything about mapping for hl, ns "maps" like siege would be the result, senseless piles of solids.
    either: lern how to map for ns properly or: spend your time for other games, editors... ns maps need a lot of knowlege.

    I cant get it why people complain about the editor/hl-engine anyway. I lerned to use worldcraft since 1998 and to this time there were nearly none useable tutorials, my english was too bad anyways to understand more than just a few sentences.

    and now I keep getting mad about my map ... *goes away*

    *gets mad*
