ATi Radeon 9600 Pro (128 MB)
Okay, before anyone recommends replacement: I brought it back to the store that I purchased it at. A technician tested it in his computer and it worked just fine, but he gave us another one just in case it was an intermittent problem.

Here's my problem... I put in my new Radeon 9600 Pro today, plugged everything in... All my hardware was connected properly. The card requires a 300W power supply, I have a 350W one. Everything was plugged in firmly (And I've done this multiple times.) and I turned on the power. I hear the computer whirr to life and I see the HDD active light flicker about for a few seconds, but here's the problem: The CPU light doesn't come on. The computer won't even START. I can't even get in to the BIOS. I've tried it about four times, two with each card, and it didn't work.

If I take the card out and use either my old Sapphire Radeon 9000 128MB or onboard video, everything boots up just fine and I can get in to Windows. I have the latest drivers for my motherboard, downloaded at http://www.viaarena.com. (I have an ECS M925LR motherboard.)

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what could be causing the problem? I've attached my DxDiag.txt file, just in case. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm looking around at their site right now. I wanted to make sure that nobody here had a similar problem and knows how to fix it, though. I'm calling ATi Tech Support tomorrow. (They're closed today, since it's Boxing Day.)

Hm, sounds like the problem could be about compatibility with your motherboard but dont listen to meh, I have no clue about such thing
Anyway, the 9600 pro is made to mass produced cheap, I'm having trouble with mine as well, my onboard S3 savage (16 MB) outperforms it

What factors would determine the compatability? If I have to buy a new one, I want to make sure that it'll work.

Yes, sounds like a motherboard incompatability I had an old CD drive that went dead, wouldnt let me get to BIOS or anything. I took it out and everything worked perfectly.

yeah, I don't have much advice myself... I know my 9600 all-in-wonder has a couple more connections than you'd expect... so I'm assuming you followed all the directions... I'm also assuming that it's in your AGP slot... because I dun think any modern graphics cards work with non-agp slots these days... don't yell at me if my suggestions are too obvious, because we gotta start at the beginning =P

Sounds like a power problem to me, perhaps your chipset is outdated also

I fit all the power requirements and yes, my card is in the AGP slot. I followed all the directions to the letter. :/

I suggest asking around in the PC Mechanic Video forums. I'm certain they can help you solve the problem

hmmm, so you dont see a POST, and no beep codes either? while you have the 9600 pro plugged in try taking your monitor connector to the onboard and see if you get any screen that way. One problem maybe is that your bios isnt setup to use the agp and not the onboard. It maybe as simple as that, give it a try.

Also try the ocworkbench.com forums and the sysopt.com forums if your still having trouble. Yes, its a pain in the arse to register, but if you are really desperate, give it a try...
