<div class="IPBDescription">The computer that wouldnt die!</div> Wel as some of you may have noticed, or not, I've been gone mostly for the last few weeks, mostly because my computer was acting like a booger and not working, which once again, some of you may know because I madea thread about it. But anyway, now it's fixed and I've decided to put all of my experiences in one of my famous and well-loved "stories that no one likes"
I've tried posting a thread like this before, but my comp always gave me a BSOD before I could finish typing. And that brings me to my first point: BSODs!!! Yes, the infamous blue screen of death has graced my pupils many times in the past few weeks, as that is how nearly all of the problems I had were manifested. I was getting so many, I even started to notice different COlORS! Not the blue, the blue never changed, but the text was a veritable flower in bloom with color! Black and white usually, but color none the less! Yes white text, black text, white and black striped text (horizontally and vertically striped), one half white one half black, all black with the leftmost 4 pixels black, and one time even LIGHT BLUE (that was a treat lemme tell ya)! I had never gotten a BSOD that was anything but the standard white on blue, so I was amazed! But then, something more amazing happened! I noticed that sometimes there would be weird patterns and traces of color in the text sometimes, it mystified me where these came from. But then I realised that these patterns only came when I was watching a video as the crash occured, so it turns out that if I happen to be watching something in BSPlayer when I get a BSOD the text displays what would be on the screen if the video were at full screen res. Pretty neat, even though it was absolutely infuriating.
I tried everything to get this comp working again, I bought new RAM (didn't work), took out all my USB devices (worked for about 45 minutes, then stopped. Still not useing my wireless keyboard and optical mouse for some reason), and tried valiently to reinstall windows. Reinstalling windows turned out to be a feat beyond my skill. First I tried reinstalling from my XP disk, no dice. It would boot from the disk, load a few drivers and then crap out. Tried reformating from the command prompt (didn't work obviously), tried reformatting from my sisters computer (wouldn't even boot up with my drive in her comp), tried using a knoppix disk I had floating around (wouldn't boot up either). I was about to just make a bootdisk floppy with nothing but format.com on it, but then I figured out the problem.
Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that around this time was when I had a sub-woofer(spallign bad!) light on fire, but that's not realy related to the computer itself, I still don't know what happened there.
So anyway, after some research into the situation I had, I figured out that the IRQL errors I had been receiving were from my sound card (now disabled, gonna go buy a non-integrated one tomorrow) and from the fact that windows is a poo-head about tempurature (disabled temp monitoring) and then for the heck of it I reformatted my C drive and reinstalled windows. So that fixed my problems (unless I happen to crash again while writing this) and to my great suprise: MY COMP RUNS UPRIGHT NOW!!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (my comp has never run upright before, it has to be on it's side all the time which keps me from useing those little CDs and is just inconvenient overall)
So anyway, that's my story, and now I'm off to reinstall all my utilities and my vid card drivers too (I'm sick of 600*800 already).
