Steam Problem...

Ive had steam about as long as its been out, I have adjusted to the system and stuff, and know how to work it. But now a problem comes up :/

Steam wont load up anymore. Anything I try, wont work, all I see is the small steam tab at the bottom, and then windows tells me it isnt responding, and it quits. Ive restarted my comp for about 5 times now, and ran an ad-aware/virus scan more than once
(my systems clean). The ONLY thing I can think of which caused this.....umm...I was replacing sounds for Firearms, thats the only thing. I was manually taking sounds from a new dod sound pack, changing the names, and replacing the old ones.

Whats with this? Help?

    I would suggest trying the steampowered forums.

    There is a good chance that some one else has had said problem, and they have a fix <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    When steam has an error it will try and fix it self.. I learned this the hard way...Steam would crash and close..But in my task manger there would be a steam.exe running and using up tons of ram so I would close it and think nothing of it...Then I read on some forums that steam was trying to fix it self and to let it run. So I did and when it got done (after using almost all my cpu usage and all my ram) steam worked fine

    Try deleating clientregistry.blob

    That seems to work with most problems <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    When windows tells you steam is "Not Responding", that's windows being an ****. Nothing wrong with what steam's doing. It's probably reorganising it's cache or something.

    The best piece of advice I can give R.E. Steam: Let it be. Patience is your friend.

    OK try this: Find your steam folder and move the entire thing into the recycle bin. Now what you need to do is go into your normal, non steam HL and play over WON. That should fix all your steam related probelms.

    Until WON dies... and that will be ever-so-soon. Then all of you anti-STEAM people can burn in the fiery depths of hell with no multiplayer half-life support.

    I don't think it will be as soon as you think. I'm not the only one that can't get steam to work.

    Actually, you pretty much are in a dying group. Its just that a lot of people are quite stupid, and can't get it running because of said stupidity. Only 8% of those who now try steam with any version have it work fine.

    Yesterday, I had problems with steam. I left it for 2 hours, and it just sat there like a fat fish at the bottom of the pond glooping at me. So I killed the steam.exe process using task manager and relaunched it to get the steam dialog up. After some downloading of stuff, it said something along the lines of:

    "Steam is unavailable. Please try again later".

    As it happened, Venmoch's solution (delete the clientregistry.blob) worked. So, my advice:

    kill steam using taskman;
    delete the .blob file;
    relaunch steam.

    You'll probably need to relogin after it completes.

    /edit Steam is stupid. It gives little or no feedback to you when it goes wrong. The only way of getting any kind of help is visiting the steampowered forums which of course are well advertised in the steam application ...
