Odd Network Problem
<div class="IPBDescription">possibly a mass virus or virii</div> erm hey.. i dont like have many tech suppport style posts... but i need help from the resident gods.
ok my friends pc was running very very slow.. and so i said i would clean it up for him if he gave me an xmas tree.. (he lives on a farm) so yeah i got my treeeee
and right.. my p.c, and the 2 downstairs were ALL running fine...
then i put this one onto the network... and all of a sudden.. random lockups... and all kinds of problems...
my machine : my av was fully updated and it would scan the drives and everything fine till it got to c:\my docs and settings\toms\local settings\temp\avp2e1.tmp.
and i couldnt delete it.. i mean i know that the local settings folder is 'hidden' but it wasnt showing even when i asked it to... so i had to go thru dos.. and i delted it in there and then mine worked.. scanned like a beast... and found only:
C:\Documents and Settings\Toms\Local Settings\Temp\Rem233.exe Infected TrojanDropper.Win32.Swicer
and yeah... then i went round the other systems.. some were infected with this.. and more.
after some very long and arduous tests.. i thought i had fixed it and came back up to my room.. then the 633 celeron which we use as our 'host' died on me.. and so instead of messing around.. i reformatted it.. it only hosts the net connection anyway... so yeah.. did that and it worked fine.. for like 1 hour.. so i assumed it was back to normal.. its now 06:22 and it turns out it cut off around 4 times... redialed itself.. then just died at 02:27 am..
now i went downstairs agian and it wasnt dead.. it had the internet connection on as active.. here is the problem though.. it was like uber slow.. i mean i move the mouse 4 inches.. and it takes 20 seconds.. now i know a 633 celeron is no better then crud.. but yeah.. that is FAR too bad for it.. and it kept on doing that.. so i rebooted and it did the same over and over.
so help me out.. is this hardware on the 633 dying? or is it another infection?
the specs incase anyone is gonna moan
Home1 : 633 celeron, 128 mb ram, 1 mb vid card.

Mine : 2.4 ghz, 768 mb ram, 64 mb vid card.
Friends : 1.7 ghz, 768 ram, 64 mb vid card
not amasing specs.. but when i brought mine i had other financial obligations..
