man, i dont care much for christmas anymore. Hell, if i hadn't got a "merry christmas" e-mail today i wouldn't have remembered at all until it was January. It's lost whatever meaning it had for me before. (mostly just a day do get stuff)

I mean seriously... to me it seems rather silly to buy a tree and put stuff all over and under it. All it is to me is free caek and pai.

meh... I've been invited to a christmas party over at some family's house, but I'd rather stay home and do some gaming.

Christmas is something I don't really like and I don't really hate.

I'm not religious and am quite happy that my family did not go to church this year... it's always the same crap there: singing the same songs and viewing kinds play the same story over and over and voer again. And of course it's "the xmax story in a completely new and modern way played by our young christians" ... and always boring as hell if you ask me.

And I really hate this fake "being nice attitude" of people during christmas... either you are friendly and helpful most the time or you are not. If you need a special season for that, something's wrong.
Also this mega-conmerciallisation of xmas is really annoying imho. Shops were starting to use xmas decorations and stuff in the middle of OCTOBER!!!
Oh and before I forget: I hate those christmas songs, i really do. You know, I quite a romantic guy, but I hate being forced into that mood with radio stations playing "Last christmas" over and over and over again, bands releasing only balads and the sound of gingle bells in your ear 24/7 >_<
I KNOW it's christmas, I do NOT need a thousand reminders every minute!

So what do i like about christmas? Gifts!
I like getting gifts, as greedy as it may sound. And i like to give gifts to people that I like. In my family this is quite nice: during the time before christmas my parents talk to my brother, my sisters and me about what would be a nice present... and if it's not too expensive we get those things. This way nobody is disappointed with what he gets. "But if you know what you get it's booooring" you might say. Wrong. There are always some small gifts we don't know anything about. Those surprises are really nice.
For example I knew I would get a new 17" Monitor because my old one was having problems. What I didn't know was that my mother bought me a book I was looking for for quite a long time.

"It's the larger things that you get and the small things that make you happy" so to say.

As said before I like giving little (i rarely got any money to spare) presents to people I like... makes one feel good if they like what they get. But finding a good present can be a real pain in the butt. The malls are overrun and the markets are crowded... I don't like that.
Most the time I give things that fit the other presents my family gets.
For example my brother got some lego mindstormsthis year, so I bought his a small "bonus pack" for it so he can build more things with it. MY father and one of my sisters each got an album of their favorite bands (R.E.M. & Pink) and my mother got a book she was missing in her collection. And since my other sister got an MP3-Player but has only 5 or 6 MP3s on her computer I burned 3GB of my MP3s for her... quite a cheap present, but it made her happy and that's what counts.
If I had a girlfriend I'd probably buy/give her something that we both can enjoy... for example you can get a weekend in london including flight for two persons quite cheap these days and you got something nice to remember.

But in general I'm quite happy when all this xmas hype is over for this year.

    1. why did you go to church if you're not religious? going to church on major holidays only is just pretentious.

    2. some people are nice all the time, and during the holidays they make an EXTRA effort to be superlatively kind. ever consider that? ever gone around on christmas giving lunch to the homeless? that's what it's about, to me anyway.

    3. i agree with you here, but i worked in a store where it was mandatory to play christmas music. i could only listen to normal music if i was alone with a certain one of the managers, but you get the idea. but you, man.. just turn off the radio. listen to your own music. you're being pseudo-maddoxesque.

    4. this passage was a drastic change. i think you're getting it, kinda. expand your view, and you've got christmas in a nutshell.

    5. it's always a conscious choice whether or not to annoy yourself about things. don't sweat the small stuff, man. enjoy yourself. enjoy life. enjoy holidays.

    merry christmas, guys.

If you hate christmas, it's not because christmas is bad, but because no one loves you.

It means nothing to me anymore, just an excuse to be annoyed with my family. My two most significant dates are when University starts, and then when it ends. Life is only important in the middle bit there, or when I'm working in a lab part time on something.

I hate it how it is so over commercialised, and how it all boils down to starting world war 3 with my family. I just can't be bothered with it aside from the giving people stuff part. Its come down to the fact that its now the only meaningful part of it anymore for me. Just reaffirms things like family bonds and how I feel for people like my Girlfriend for example. Seeing as I'm now semi cut off from my own family, even that aspect will slowly die.

The huge amount of idiots who get on the road during this time is a REAL downside too. Every little old lady who can't drive and uses their car once a year brings it out at this time.

Bah, give me orientation week at Uni any day.

    christmas is a waste

forced feelings which are fake coverups.

i am FORCED to be nice to my family, when i hate them (almost all of them)
i dont like wasting money i work for on stupid crap which none of them use.
i dont like bein given crap which i dont want or need, which i know will just end up shoved somewhere, and having to say "thanks, i really wanted this" so that the person doesnt get offended

i only want to spend the day (and rest of my life) with my gf, but even thats too much to ask, cause we are in different cities >_<

christmas sucks, just another day in which stupid people waste their time and money.

(tho i do like bein given money .. give me MONEY! To .. zim! )

    Christmas time feels retarded.
It's like beeing forced to be happy, smiling and giving gifts.

Why pretend to be happy on 1 day of the year if you aren't happy at all.

Nobody is being forced to be happy or anything, just live in your own hole <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Personally I think it's cozy (sp?) and other people's happiness makes me happy as well <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
