The Last Samurai

Wow.

As you probably know I'm the most anti-Japanese-fanboy-istic person here, but this movie was just... wow. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and GO SEE IT!

The last twenty minutes or so is the saddest thing I've seen in a LONG time, probably the only movie that brings me to the verge of tears.

BTW: How true are the events? I know nothing about the history of Japan, but I can't imagine that they'd entirely fictionalize what could be such a huge chunk of history. I mean, imagine a civil war movie where aliens land and take over Lincoln with mind control. Yeah. I haven't seen one yet.

Yes, the last twenty minutes were indeed sad. I am pretty sure the historical events were accurate, although the names of people were probably changed or whatever.

So if it's true... all these people saying 'OMGOMG JAPAN = TEH R33T!' are idolizing a country for it's traditions that it shamelessly tried to extinguish? WTH if I loved swords that much I'd freaking HATE them.

This is going to be a movie-packed week.

LOTR and The Last Samurai... ooh, can't wait.

Uranium, the entire events of the Japanese civil-war are true, how the samurai fought and such.

Overall, the movie was accurate, though it had to take some liberties. I believe it was during the Meiji era that the civil war happened.

I loved this movie. I don't care what people say, Tom Cruise did a damn fine job in it. Plus add on the fact he worked on this movie for NO (zip, zero) money down. As the movie is in theaters he's getting paid, not before it's release.

    Definetely Oscar material I think.

I seen the movie, and all I have to say is it is by far the best movie I've seen in a long, long time. The last 20 minutes, like earlier stated, are also the saddest part of a movie I've seen in a loooong time also (I damn near started crying <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->). I normally don't like many movies, especially a lot of the garbage that's been pumped out of the theaters recently, but wow, this movie was amazing.

I have to say, despite being mainstream-corporate-good-guy-film-feel-great-gg-patriotism-blah-blah-blah-timmah-whure, Tom Cruise has actually got far more good films to his name than bad ones, when you think about it.

Um, no, that's not at all true. Somebody's never opened a history book...

Yeah, the movie is great. Best of all, it hasn't been very afflicted by the hollywood-let's-dumb-things-down disease either! Woohoo! 9.5/10 I'd say.
