I had one on my PC for ages, did nothing until one day it decided to format my entire HDD
But yes, I've definitely gone through the "norton won't **** work and MSN won't sign in" stuff.
Just try again tomorrow morning
*edit* And it just hit me. I'm so effing scientific it hurts.
EDIT: Also get Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite and get the free 40 day trial for it! Use: Drive Cleaner, Registry Cleaner, Startup Tuner, and Internet Cleaner (or more simply, One Click Optimization and Startup Tuner). The Startup Tuner part is VERY important, you can stop that file that is messing your computer up before it starts next time you restart your computer. Just look for files that you dont know on the Startup Tuner.
EDIT2: Found another spyware removal program, it seems to have removed stuff stat Adaware didnt find, 142!!!! things that Adaware didnt find to be exact. Spybot S&D. *Be sure to update this to the very latest version*
I've ran Spybot and hijack this. Removed alot of spyware but its still happening
EDIT: Also when i play ns i get 200 ping when i usally get 30-60 ping....
What you can do is search for your windows task manager (taskman.exe) and copy it to somewhere like your desktop. Rename it to 'ManageTasks.exe' and run it.
Try looking for a process called msiexec16.exe, if you find it, kill it.
You will then need to run msconfig, and remove any mention of msiexec.exe from your ini files.
Make sure on the line Shell=explorer.exe, that you do not delete that line, but the line afterwards which contains the path msiexec16.exe.
IE Shell=Explorer.exe C:\Windows\System32\msiexec16.exe
Should become
Shell=Explorer.exe.
Lastly, check your registry under the 'run' and 'runonce' keys (Or the 'startup' section of msconfig) for any reference of said file.
If you do not find any process called msiexec.exe, kill any services that you dont recognise that are running under your username, if you can open norton then, you know that you've killed the right process. If that doesn't work, start killing system processes you don't know.
HTH.
I've just found out i had this.
I thought something was dodgy when i saw it listening to ports... thanks alot thoron!

When I click that link my computer chucks a beeping fit and crashes. The virus must not like that site.

Downloading .exes off kazaa is a good way to get a virus, even with Norton installed. I assume that the virus managed to sneak through Norton because either Norton wasn't updated, it was turned off or it doesn't detect that virus's signature. Is there some bypass that you can set in Norton to let through a particular application's files unchecked ?
Keygen ? You attempted to download a keygen utility and got a virus. Oops.

That virus scanner is great. It's free, and you don't even need to instal anything for it to work.

You do - it's an ActiveX control.
