i've seen it a million times, and helped a few people manage there time better. They end up having more time for school and to play games.

On a seirouse note, if games controll your life your in real big trouble with or with out playing games.

Best thing you could ever do is just finish off all work before play. I ushally end up doing 1-2 hours of work then i spend the rest of the day hanging out with friends or playing ns . Last, it's healthier to learn how to include pasttimes into your life than to abandon them completely. As time goes on you can learn to take games less seriously. Your lowered grades is not because of your interest in Natural-Selection nor any other online game. It is caused by your lack of balance which seems to stem from inexperience. Moderation is a great thing to learn in all areas of life and NS is a good place to start for you.

Some find enjoyment out of a competative atmosphere wether they post the same things due to their status in or as a clan has no impact on how they entertain themselves.

I wouldnt try to keep this game in moderation if you truly believe you wont be able to define the boundrys. Better to just get rid of it as a whole imo. You really dont HAVE to learn moderation although its a usefull skill in different situations.

Guys, relax. If you cant compose a post without insulting someone else, dont reply at all.

Games and life can be hard to balance at times. I was worried about my exams somewhat. It was only a week before them that I actually realised that I was having my final exams, then it was burning the midnight oil till 4 AM, sleeping till 9, then hitting the books at 10 until 4 AM again.

At the end of my exams, I rewarded myself with a boatload of NS.

Past times arent habits. Playing NS is not as bad as say, Smoking. Most things in moderation can be good.

Failing an exam or some kind of pivotal assesment task means that you havent studied enough. It simply means to cut down on certain things, not cut them out altogether. Keep cutting down until you've reached a marking level that your happy with. If in the end you find you need to cut NS altogether to secure your future, then by all means do so.

Dealing with the hole it leaves will be tough though. Try to find a substitute, something as fun but less addictive. Chess is in fact quite fun no matter what the jocks say. You still need something to take the edge off life sometimes, NS does that remarkably (cept when you get a bad game =\), but so do other forms of entertainment.

Good luck and take care of yourself. Hopefully you can find what is best for you in your life.

@ Holocaust, Nice Av

Overwhelming addiction ? That's nothing to be ashamed of , NS is the best game of the world. I'm almost 20 and still play NS way too much , since the beginning of this year. NS made me fail most of my exams , so I got to change my plans a bit : just work during vacations ! The awful lot of spare time I have when visiting my grand parents lets me work chemistry , maths and physics altogether. That's enough to pass the exams right in January , or June.

btw Last... don't fool yourself into thinking you can escape Natural Selection.
You can't. If you stop playing NS for too long you're going to suffer from severe psychological troubles , guaranteed.

too serious

if NS takes a too big place in your life, you better make priorities. if you cannot do that...dunno...try finding some other game, which is less competitive/less organised clanplay, the same fun, but not so addictive that it drains your social being

Oh dear... when people start saying that Windows 95 was a long while ago, and you realise that was only about a quarter of your gaming life away, you know you're getting old :/

Aaanyway, I basically have to parrot what a lot of people here have said; moderation in all things should be the goal. Yeah, you played NS too much, and it affected your schooling. Naughty you, give yourself a slap on the back of the hand, and make up what you lost... but that's doesn't mean you have to cut NS out altogether. Just get your Mum to unplug the phone line for your computer, and only plug it back in when you've shown her you've done your homework/studying for the day. Problem solved.

(Or, y'know, you could rely on willpower. Heh.)
