Or am i the only one?
I just got selected to BETA test Earth and Beyond I was wondering if anyone else here has? Maybe we could hook up and fly a few missions together. I hope it is a good game....I had no idea what I signed up for I just saw an add for a BETA test and filled out a sheet, I figured "What the hell why not?". I was suprised when I saw the email...Almost deleted it thinking it was spam...

Where so can I get this? Or is it a closed beta?

Gah, the only way you can get the Asheron's Call2 beta is to have a personal server at FilePlanet. Anyone have any mirros?

I believe for Earth and Beyond you have to sign up and they will pick new testers at intervals from those who are registered.

They didnt make you sign an NDA? hrm.
• LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
I doubt I signed an NDA, but I may have, you can still sign up for the BETA at www.earthandbeyond.com. What exactly is a NDA? And Yoshi, it is a closed beta, and Imperial, it is an EA game not Westwood.

You can get the the E&B site from westwood.com, and NDA = Non Disclosure Agreement (correct?).
• LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
I never read those things....I just click "OK" or "Next" or "I agree to these terms and conditions".
• TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Noh, well yes. The NDA is the non-disclosure agreement and you actually have to SIGN it. Like pen, pencil, you know, that stuff near the computer? Heh, I guess they didn't make you do it; usually for betas they do.

I got selected for the beta. I just received the email last night. Only problem is that I have an AMD processor AND I run on WinXP. For some stupid reason they haven't proofed it for that combination. According to their FAQ's, the XP pack coming out next Monday is supposed to fix this. Sooo... I have the game installed, I have a free beta account, and I can't even get to the start-up screen.

So much for having a machine that's lightning fast :/

Whenever I am asked how old I am for anything online I am always 18+.

lol ...

you know, there is a reason they ask your age ... its not just to punish the kiddies ...

The fact you dont even read any of the terms and conditions or the NDA or even follow their rules ...

/me rolls his eyes

What ever ...

This is the reason they try to weed out the yonger people with that. Of coarse it only works on kids who are less than 10 years old.

Yeah I beta tested E&B. I forgot which phase; I think it was at the beginning of four. Beta 4 was private beta testing. But now its public beta. When I first played E&B I thought it was pretty cool and new. I never played a ship MMORPG and this was my first. It was very buggy. But the graphics were amazing, at first. The ship animations were cool too and later on they becoming cooler with new animations added in. There was huge lag at the newbie areas because us phase 4 testers were killing the servers. I think the phase 4 testers consisted of 1200 new players into the servers. When I was still playing the game there was a FPS bug. Every time you go into combat your FPS would drop. The game runs at 60 FPS for a smooth game. It'll drop all the way to 30FPS and it was terrible. You had to log out every time that happens to refresh the game. The skill tree/options weren't too great. I was a Terran Tradesman, fastest ship in the game with average weapons and systems. Everything was fun at first but I got tired of E&B quick. I liked playing MMORPG because I want to explore and see the virtual world for each game. But in a ship MMORPG all you see is space and it does get plain boring. I quited like 4 months ago. My tradesmen was lv 40, I think.

That CAN lead to complications later, you must realise.

I deal with things as they happen......It may seem short sighted but it has always worked for me.

"GameSpy.com will be offering the public test software as a free download at www.fileplanet.com."

That is what it says on the website but I like how you have to subscribe to fileplanet to download it. So I guess it isn't so free...

You know that sort of attitude is part of the reason why we as teenagers are sterotyped as having no advance planning skills and being unable to think about consquences.

I can see consequences clearly and understand them, my comment was more focused on which consequences are minor and or unlikely enough to be disregarded.

^^ Example of someone breaking an NDA (if there was one and it was still in private beta), in fact not only would you have broken an NDA but you are half the reason they exist, to stop people telling everyone that a game (a BETA of all things) is buggy (no ####, it's beta) and not that fun.

However to sign an NDA you have to be 18+ and whilst you can 'digitally sign' by ticking a box it is usually done for real so they can pound your arse when you publish material or too much info

And, rather than giving extensive feedback explaining why it wasn't so fun to play for a long time, then sticking around to continue to give feedback, you quit.

This is why having large betas for anything except final ones for stability/performance testing on as many systems as possible is a waste of time.
