We need this.
Hi All,
I'd really like to see a new forum opened up. One that allows people to "advertise" their servers.
The properties that you would set on this forum would be along the line of:
- allowed to create a topic
- not allowed to reply to the topic (disallows bashing in the thread) (may or may not need to be implemented)
This would enable clans/admins to be able to advertise their servers to the general populace, instead of hiding it here in the SUPPORT forums.
This is a fairly serious request.
Thanks,

Why? To what ends are you referring?
Right now server ops are not allowed to advertise their servers ANYWHERE except in Support.
It happens once in a while that we decide to post on the community forums that we have a server up, and then it gets phased to support where no one will ever read it.
I'm not referring to sig advertising in this post. I post so rarely that it's a wonder I made it past 10 posts on this forum, but I would like a place to say:
- My Server IP IS: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
- It's located in this area of the world
- We have a community Page at:
- Our Server Rules are:
It feels like the mods are not encouraging us to be a part of the community by telling the people that host the servers that their servers are only good enough to be placed in the help forum.
I'd really like to be able to post when I put up a new server, that's NOT aggressive advertising. But if I do post it *phased to SUPPORT*, which frankly ticks me off. It's not the moderator's fault, it's a bad policy, and that policy needs to be changed.
This is one option. Another is to allow us to post in the general discussion about new servers. Another is to allow the server op community to forget about these boards and no longer be part of the community. And I don't like the last option.

It looks like NS is dying, if you go to http://www.gamespy.com/stats/ you will see that with the advent of STEAM, Half-Life players are migrating to other games. There has been a 50% observed drop in the number of players online since the same time last year.
We need to increase the draw for this community if we want to survive, otherwise NS will go the way of Action Half-Life. What?? you don't know what AHL is?? You missed out.

No,
It's a polling system that scans all the servers in the world and grabs the statistics off of them.
Same concept as GameTiger (http://www.gametiger.com/)

we used to be 3rd and dominating TFC believe it or not
i suggest that forum immediately!
Also, the server requirements also hurt the community. We could a ton more servers, and players without the requirements. *im sleepy*
Also, we have a REALLY small clan database.
NS needs to bring clanplay into action if we are gonna be real contenders or your looking at the next....
Flop?
I wouldn't say the NS community is dying, just flagging a bit. This could certainly help the people who play the game the way its meant to be played link up on similar servers.

I know for a fact that this information is totally wrong NS community has ~~600+ servers
And CS has more than 16000
gamespy sucks!
There are about 55000 servers running some type of HL, Im glad its a small time game. We all know what happend to CS and DOD when they blew up. Lets not let the same happen to NS.
Oh, BTW you will get all the "NEW" public players when NS goes steam, All those little kids are going to come. YAY, Serious gamers find the good games, "Noobs" fall on them.
And CS has more than 16000

I'd like you to show me where you get your numbers from.
This is from my in game browser:

This is from game spy, about 20 seconds after I did the in game browser:

Granted, the in game browser restricts you to where you connect in the world, but would it not restrict other players as well then?
Are there any reliable places we can find out information on how many servers are up in the world? and where are these servers located?
Pebbs
PS: The point I am trying to make is that game spy and the won server browser are fairly close together on the numbers...
