What Do You Want To See In A Download Site?
<div class="IPBDescription">Making one :)</div> I'm starting a download site (www.gamecache.net partner site; maybe different domain).
I'm asking you gamers here what you would like to see from a download site <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Some ideas I thought of was...
No Wait
No Ads (maybe)
Friendly Navigation

Here's what I think it may look like <a href='http://gamecache.net/download.gif' target='_blank'>http://gamecache.net/download.gif</a>
Let me know if you have any ideas <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Without ads or motivation to pay, its kind of sunk.
passworded to save bandwidth, but NO EMAIL AT ALL god that spam pisses me off
file descriptions
screenshots
nice organized tree-structure, but dont overdo it (make us go through eleventybillion subfolders to reach anything resembling a file)
no line crap (fileplanet, gamespy)
decent but somewhat capped bandwidth
nice selection
ice-blue, too many green/black downlad sites .... hurts my eyes
Long long lines.

Guns.
Big big guns.

Fileplanet = GameSpy
HEIL LIENS!
I'd like a simple design with few graphics so it loads quick
No ques
No adverts for subscribed users, adverts for non-subs
I don't mind banners, but NO popups/those annoying flash ads.
Lines are OK, too... but perhaps a NON SPYWARE client that will wait and start the download without intervention...
Also bit torrent mirrors might be helpful.. dunno..
what do you need registration for? If youre doing this for free, out of good will, you dont need anything, if your looking to make money be up front about it
ID/Password = Gamespy/Fileplanet (may they burn in hell)
Why does this forum have registration? Think about it, registration is key, it takes 5 seconds to register and people that want the file can do it quickly <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

<i>Don't dodge the filters</i>

I coulda sworn we needed to signup for these forums...
Only Banner Ads, and depending on what connection type you select in your register settings, some movie type ads, but 0 flash ads.
Respectable Forums, talking about the files, so that problems can be discussed in them and the such, as Q&A for the file, being most game things don't support demo problems
MANY MANY MANY Servers. I'm thinking 20 would be good
A Special System for Paying people(aka, those who are good to you), who can get files 1 or 2 days in advance(such as the Deus Ex 2 demo, or a HL2 demo when it comes)
All files are personally loaded on by owner, and must be reviewed by the company. I don't think stupid files such as a AD&D dice thing or some stupid stuff like that should be in. Nor, should porn be.
Thats everything I can think of.
Registration is not a problem at all -- so long as it has long-term cookies, so I do not have to login each time I want a file, etc.
Looks, banners, ads, etc all come behind those two things in my eyes.
P.S. Celeron <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
The only things I can really think of are a simple layout and fast downloads. Oh, and how about us ns.org forum goers get something special <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. Oh, and totaly free would be nice.
Urm, Download manager enabled (As long as it doesn't suck up too much bandwidth)
Easy to use. PayPal donation button, thats all I can think of.
2 Adverts what gather ya money(unless user is using browsers like Avant, block out the browsers what blockout ADS for your site..)
But seriously enable download accelerators. I hate it when im on 28k(Australian cable download limit don't ask) ANd i got to a site which dosen't alow download accels. Without a download accelerator i get 500 BYTES per second. Easy access, no popup ads or flash. Simple layout images to a minimum(28k again) ALso where is the server located? Us= good me get good speed pages load quick. UK= BAD takes me half qan hour to load a page on 28k.
I surf with java, scripting and cookies turned off. So if the site doesn't work without these, I'm not going to use it.
