I don't see this as too much of a problem, really. Marines can still kill aliens, and this gives aliens more mobility.

a good bunnyhopping skulk can move at twice or even triple the normal speed

i would consider that to be a problem

Double - Triple speed? Now I know your exaggerating.

Air speeds are limited to about 1.5x base speed. It makes you a "little" faster, but not by much.

In any case, aliens are meant to be the mobile ones.

Marine Bhopping in 1.04 makes current alien bhopping look like molasses in subzero temprature.

Your wrong. Watch maven or nadagast bhop. You can get double/triple normal skulk speed easy as long as the jumps are timed right.

like alien bhopping compared to marine bhopping in 1,04 i suppose...

(you are wrong. maybe they were using celerity?)
• titaniumtitanium Join Date: 2003-10-31 Member: 22166Members
marines cannot get more than 15% or so of a speed boost. if you've ever seen a good skulk bunnyhop, they can get at least a 100% boost, if not more.

if you believe i or nerdy to be wrong, find e. Nadagast and spectate him when he is a skulk.

wow someone doesnt know what they were talking about :o). Im not whining or saying that its bad that skulks can get thta speed, im simply saying u can easily get double/triple skulk walking speed and if you don't believe me you obviously just have no idea what your talking about.
• BogglesteinskyBogglesteinsky Join Date: 2002-12-24 Member: 11488Members
do you mean walking speed or running speed?

was it with or without celerity?
• NerdyNerdy Join Date: 2003-10-25 Member: 21954Members, Constellation
I mean running speed w/o celerity. Trust me. mediocre bunny hoppers can get 2x easily. Good ones can get up to 3x and even some a little more then 3x. If you don't believe me watch nadagast, su1c1dal maniac, remics, syckness, Maven. There many more people who can also do this.

Bunny Hopping is important to this game's balance, much like knockback for marines. It really is fine. And besides, it doesn't matter if you bhop at marines, if you charge a good marine as a skulk you will get owned no matter what.

if you knew anything, you'd know that it's capped to 1.7X

you probably saw a celerity + bhop skulk
• HuntyHunty Join Date: 2003-08-09 Member: 19244Members
Marines are meant to have range advantage....

This advantage is completely nullified when you have skulks able to close the distance in record time.

For some weird, obscure reason all the pro-bhoppers are probably doing it themselves,or play aliens most of the time....

Or they just havent seen bhoppers do 2.0 MC celerity skulk rush.

Being french, you may not know... but Nerdy has more skill/knowledge of the game than you do eggmac. Just because Flayra handed you guys a Veteran bumper sticker to appease the Europeans on the boards doesn't mean you are smarter/righter.

That said, I think the speeds gained by aliens are ridiculously fast and even I feel like I can get 2x. I can't keep up with romano in the beta servers even if it was a perfect straightaway and I didn't biff hitting one of my keys.... He goes way faster than 2x....

Yeah you really need to close that distance ahead of time, before the marines get there, then surprise the marines. Charging a marine headon is asking for death, unless you can dodge just right. And that doesn't happen too often (though I admit my experience is limited). On the other hand, the increased mobility allows aliens to set up ambushes in record time and get to those res towers that much earlier.

no crit, I am not french and neither has Nerdy more knowledge about that game as his posts clearly show.

I don't mind bunny hopping for aliens. A bhopping onos is a tad bizarre but oni rarely get the space to properly bhop anyway.

Why?

Because skulks need a speed benefit? Then why not just increase the skulk speed?

By biggest beef with bunnyhopping is that the technique is so obscure. Players have to go outside the game, onto forums and internet sites simply to learn HOW to do it.

If bunnyhopping is part of the game, if its a feature, then it should be in the manual. It should be made clear to players.

ROFL...taking the mickey...Im gonna use that one...

And, on topic...If you saw a skulk moving twice or three times as fast as normal, Im sure you would totally burn your argument, because what you see is only 1.5x faster, at the most, I know this is true.

And in my opinion I see no problem with bunny hopping aliens, it was specifically not altered for 2.0, if I remember correctly, and marine bunny hopping was.

Bhopping isn't in the manual probably because it hasn't been updated.

Next, the technique is obscure, however, so is proper aim, or any good tatics with aliens/marines... and none of that is close to being listed in the manual.

Skill parts of the game are always there for the players to find out, not for others to dictate to them how to find out. If you need help, then you should ask others for help.

Also, everyone knows that HL is based off of Quake, which has Bhopping. Bhopping is at least 7-8 years old. So really, saying it isn't well known about is a really weak argument.
