    Because this changes the lerk from a support unit to a melee unit, I think the old umbra should be brought back. I never liked having to point at the ground to umbra myself anyways.

    Ok. I did some testing using 2.01 downloaded from the NS downloads page. turned cheats on, went marine and built tons of TF's in nanogrid on ns_veil.. Then I went gorge on aliens and spawned hives so I have bile bomb. I climbed up the vent and went gorge.. Then I dropped a bile bomb from inside the vent to the TF's, ZERO DAMAGE(I had damage numbers on). Then I tried again with my head sticking out of the vent but still in it, ZERO DAMAGE. Then I jumped down and bile bombed it directly, Did some damage. Took 2 screenshots to show it. This one is of shooting from the vent. The next will be on ground.

    Invincible marines? Don't like. :/ This will, I fear, result in more rushes and in addition to medspam, the marine won't be able to die for 8 seconds either?

    The catalyst won't kill the marine, but aliens still can. Basically, the catalyst takes away 25 health points (don't know about armor), but if the marine is at 10 hp they will only be brought down to 1 hp and not die, although a parasite will kill them.

    Please don't complain about the way the lerk changed until you try it. I was very skeptical when I first read the changelog, ready to post how much I would miss spike, etc. Instead of posting, I went and tried it. It took 2 tries to know that I won't miss the old lerk. The new one has some small disadvantages over the old, but overall, it is much better. Playing against it, it fits the Kharaa theme better. Using it, it is just amazingly fun to fight with now. It is now common to see a pack of skulks and lerks around the corner in combat, and it's really scary when all of them charge you at once. Lerk bite is not redundant with skulk bite, since they have completely different movement and dodging styles. They attack from diffent angles. They complement each other suprizingly well. Did I mention that being attacked by both skulks and lerks at once is heart-poundingly brutal? And, of course, even more satisfying when you manage to bring them down for the same reason. Please wait till you try it before you let it bother you.

    Well why not go Bite-Spore-Spike-Umbra so that we still have spore which is necassary for a one hive lerk and once you get second hive you can have spike and we just lose primal scream (Sure its useful but a well placed umbra is also damn useful)

    Bah! Lerk bite is back but look what it replaced :/ Spikes were awesome. Now we are stuck with a long range low-dmg attack that only dmgs light armor, and even then the dmg is dismally low. Why spikes? There was nothing wrong with them. Don't get me wrong, Bite should come back, but it SHOULD NOT replace the ONLY ranged attack aliens have before hive3. Spores a ranged attack? haha. Weakest ranged attack ever and takes to much adren. Replace umbra, or the ever useless 'primal scream' :/

    The lerk needs to have Bite / Spike / NON PROJECTILE UMBRA / Paralyze, IMO.
    also,
    Fade needs to be slightly more res :/ Something needs to be done about res-whoring onos as they win the game every time in 99% of pubs.

    stimpacks are cool, but i don't think many people will know how to use them effectively. "Commander, hook me up with some DRUGS!"

    The way it was described it sounded like marines were invincible when using it... needs better wording.

    It seems to me that the reimplementation of the Lerk bite will make the Lerk too similar to the Fade, but I'll postpone a final judgement until I actually experience how it plays.

    Why not give primal scream to the gorge? He's all about rear line support. While your at it, make the heal spray non damaging to marines and instead give the gorge a bite too just like all the other biting/clawing aliens. Gorges have mouths and teath. One whole family of bite loving aliens.

    So... how about a 56ker among the PTs/vets/constellations tell us whether <b>cl_rate 9999</b> makes the game unplayable for them then, as there seems to be some confusion about that.

    I just love how people don't read the whole thread before posting about that rate issue... (no, not you Maus).

    Haven't people learned by now that there's no point whining about something until you've tried it? Obviously not. Come on, guys. You whined when Lerks lost bite in the first place, and haven't missed it. They aren't making these changes just to **** you off.

    Would someone please explain what catalyst does?

    Catalyst is researched at the arms lab and allows you to drop Catalyst Packs. Catalyst packs give +25% to move speed and rate of fire for 8 seconds but you also take 25 damage from using it, if the damage would normally be enough to kill you it just reduces your hp to 1 instead.

    Rawr.. the catpacks have no models yet.. Can't tell when I run over a medpack model if I'll gain hp or lose it =/
    That hopefully will change in 2.1p. The lerk flight is Horrid. too damn heavy. Feels like a gorge with wings. People say you just have to glide, but then you get no speed at all. When you start to go fast you don't even dive. You just drop. Simple enough. Needs much work.
    As for the rest of it. Just wait. Don't bother discussing these changes as they are all subject to CHANGE.

    That's a bit... bizarre. I mean... I can understand injecting yourself with a powerful stimulant making you stronger and faster, but damaging your health, but how <s>on Earth</s> in the Ariadne Arm does a stimulant drug make your gun fire faster?

    You prolly can remove the cl_rate part and it would work like it's supposed to.

    I usuallly take a wait and see stance on non-fixed beta changes, but.... what happened to the gorge bile bomb? I love going gorge and taking out bases, but wth? I think a nicer way to nerf unkillable vent gorges would be to reduce the damage of bile bomb if the gorges are higher/lower than the structures. Dunno. Oh well, I'll just leave it in the hands of the almighty Flay.

    I don't think it's a nerf zero... from what I've seen mentioned it's actually a bug caused by the fix they put in for the bilebombs being able to hit stuff through walls. It stopped it going through walls fine but now it's new projectile size combined with some inconsistances in graphical representation seem to be causing problems =s
