Microphone Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">Yes - it's meant to be in OT</div> Hey...

I was kinda hovering the thread above Tech Support - but... my mic problem wasn't really specific and related to NS.

Alright - I recently upgraded from a SoundBlaster Live! Value to a SoundBlaster Audigy 2. My microphone that I use for NS is built into my "Quick Cam" traveller digital camera - and it works just fine. Until now.

It's as iff HL doesn't detect a microphone! I went into system, and it all checked out alright. It said that it was using the camera for "voice" - and I tested my ahrdware and everything is top-notch. -I even have the latest drivers!

But when I go to play HL, it doesn't work. I even go to Cutomization and put both sliders to max. Still nothing!

Anyways, thanks for your time,
-Sid

Try unchecking the boxes in Half-Life's Audio options, my Mic didn't work when I had them Checked. EAX, and something else or something. Then try it.

use the windows sound mixer to make sure its working at the windows level itself, and isn't muted, or some other device is set to record, etc.

I think I figured out the problem...

...I need a CD to install Software so my Operating system can detect that I have a Microphone in my USB thing so it can run it properlly and detect it as an option under the voice menu so I may be able to use it for Half-Life.

Half-Life automatically sets your recording source to 'Microphone'. The SBLive may have seen the cam and dual-channeled its mic intot he 'microphone' input as well. Yet another reason to hate Audigies: The Card With No Purpose.

    LIES.

A DirectX card that is both ASIO compatible and able to record at a sample rate of 96KHz is not 'the card with no purpose'. I, for one, will need one in the near future. For now I must be content with my Live.

Really. You might be pleased to learn that the Live samples at 128KHz, then, with a broader-end spectrum.. Audigies have few enhancements, many disadvantages, are prohibitively expensive, and have altered their interface without providing any kind of specification or aid for driver-writers under Linux. People have (much to Creatve's surprise) hashed together translator modules so they'll work with the EMU10K1 module, but beyond that they provide nothing over a Live. Oh... pardon. I take that back. They have a breakout box. That's it.

Isn't Live's sample record/playback max rate 48KHz? I mean, standard professional studio equipment doesn't usually go past 96KHz, so I very much doubt this would be the case with a value price soundcard over five years old. If there is some trick to this, please let me know. I truly am interested.
