This has all been said before and the arguments are not new. The people who hate scripting aren't gonna change their minds, the people who think it's alright will continue to use theirs. Why bother turning this thread into yet another debate about it. He offered his script to anyone who might be interested. If you don't like scripts, don't use it. If you want to use it go right ahead.
if you're noskill nublar, such scripts can REALLY help you. (wvu ew) but if some godlike veteran were to try it, it wouldn't offer much advantage. I've gotten used to just lastinv with fade, works ok for me
lastinv is very little different from just tapping slot 1 and slot 2 to switch..my only problem is that all 3 of those buttons are positioned on my keyboard in such a way that I have to stop moving for a brief moment to hit them.
This script could be somewhat useful simply because with it I won't have to stop hitting "w" (and therefore stop moving forward) in order to switch weapons.
However, I think I will try out a config closer to Lucids suggestion: bind MWheelup to "slot1" and MWheeldown to "slot2". Usually I have those buttons both unbound in case I hit them by accident.
I think it is better to take your finger off d than w, so I just bound f to lastinv. Who uses the flashlight anyway, except maybe to find cloaked stuff? And how often does sensory go up before the game is over? So, bind f lastinv, and it is easy to use. Just curious, what is the default key for lastinv?
Edit: If your mouse has 5 buttons, bind one of those to lastinv. If it only has 2 + scrollwheel, like mine, then I would recommend this configuration.
The valid criticism of the script is, I think, that learning with a script will later hurt you. I don't think this is necessarily the case. Unless you've got a weird keyboard set up, it's not as if tapping your lastinv key is hard. What is hard is learning to choose your fights, aiming blink, etc. I honestly doubt it will grant anyone any sort of advantage <i>or</i> hurt the development of their play.

Why do people go out an play computer games like this?
a. a person sees a nice game, plays a bit, and gets a "ooooo game=good, me try do good and have fun playing" b. later, you go out to gain some skills to beat other people at said video game c. you get the 'adrenaline rush' that you get after a hard fought kill etc etc. and so on and so forth...
but apparantly, there is a great deal of people not wanting to waste time getting their arse fragged several times in the step b part of the equation and just go out and use the "unlock all cheat so i can use all the goodies i didn't earn". And imho, scripts, config changes and gama setting stuff just defeats the purpose of the game. HAMBONE has a nice post on it, and frankly, i find things like this pointless... if you are so dependent on scripts for things like leap-biting, proper jp'ing, blink-swiping, etc, that they loose any and all ability, and rely on fancy scripting to take away from the learning proces. you are, in my opinion a hacker/cheater and therefore a loser.

Changing gama is cheating? Changing your config is cheating? You've got to be kidding me! I'm sure you play at the default software rendered resoultion (640x480?) with default mouse sensitivity and all the default key binds, and you use the name NSPlayer. Basically you called 99% of the NS community a cheater/loser. Probably more than that in fact, I'm willin to bet everyone changes at least something. Everyone has differing opinions on scripts and how far you can and cannot go but you are by far either the most radical or hypocritical of them all.
In the hands of a skilled fade player this script is pointless. my setup for everything is almost default except for gamma, so I can actually see who is shooting me, mouse sens. way up(12-14), and that's pretty much it, I dont even use my mouse wheel, just never bothered to bind it to anything. The only "scripts" I have allow me to say funny stuff when I die with the single hit of a key. If you've ever been on a server with me, you'll know what I mean, some people get annoyed, while I find them hillarious when I sometimes accidentally say "OH, I'm suppossed to DODGE the bullets." when I'm playing marine. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> I would call myself "skilled" at the public level of compettition and I don't think scripts woulde ever help me.
