So, another religion related thread but now for once we are not debating here. Just discussing how it is in hell(assuming there is one).
Satan? Is he really there? What does he look like? Is he mean? Sinfest satan? Southpark satan? Bible satan?
Is it concrete? Do you really have to be thre like you are on earth, or is it just illusion of mind. Like endless nightmare and flashing irrational pain?
Eternal suffering? Do you have little imps burning your feet with torches? Who inhabit this place? Can you speak with other sinners?
Has Hell evolved as human kind has evolved? Do they have 52" widescreen dolby digital surround buzz-word TV playing Sound of music forever and your eyelids blocked so that you can't blink? Are the torturing machines made out of Iron or have they moved on to more sophisticated materials, such as steel and plastics etc.
How is it? It's good to know in advance so it wont be such a big surprise

Purely by it's definition, yep.
I have a problem with this definition, partly because it seems to be more of a cliche than place. "Wow heaven sounds awesome! What's hell like? "Uh, its like...bad and stuff"
A quote (warning, the following can be quite the spoiler):

QUOTE

'You asked me once,' said O'Brien, 'what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.'

In the case of Winston Smith, the worst thing in the world was as simple as rats.
Hell, should it exist, is an extrapolation of the concept behind Room 101.
Venmoch wont be pleased to hear you say that...
The visions of hell provided in the bible talk of a large lake of fire with people wailing and crying. "and there shall be much wailing and gnashing of teeth" We are also told that one of the people in hell called up to heaven for one drop of water to relieve the eternal fire on his tounge
Biblically speaking,
Revelation 20:15 (Lake of Fire) - "If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
Luke 16:22-23 (Place of torment) - "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side."
And my personal favorite description...(among others)
Matthew 13:42 (Fiery Furnace) - "They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Sure, there's no complete brochure that tells the features of hell, but I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to go down there to find out EXACTLY what it is...
Or would the Devil cure him of his masochism before casting him into the Eternal Lake of Fire?
Does the Devil enjoy being in Hell, or is it as bad for him as it is for the other inmates?

I would agree
Also, wouldn't Satan be happy with the people who were evil and did his bidding? If he's in control of hell, why wouldn't he make it a very nice place to be, so more people on Earth would be convinced to do his bidding instead of God's?

By the Room 101 theory, hell for a true masochist could be the spitting image of a pain-free life (if not heaven itself) where self-injury is impossible. He'd still be in his own respective hell.

I'm no religion analyst, so I'd like people with more background to correct me if possible:
[2nd edit]Scratch that, after thinking about how very little I know about religion, I don't think my reply was even worth reading.
Anyway, i got it into my twisted little skull that the afterlife was based on your own imagination. I.E, if you've led a bad life, when you died, you would go to the "hell" that your own mind created. So, say someone was terrified of Ice Cream, they would go to a land full of Ice Cream or something (similar/exactly the same to the 101 theory i guess, but i swear i'd never heard of it back then). It was the same for heaven, if you led a good life, you would go to your own minds creation of Heaven.
I used to think this because not everyone can be the same. Some people might respond to being poked in the **** by a pitchfork differently to others (some might enjoy it, others might be "meh" to it etc).
It is still my opinion that Hell is a creation to keep early society in order, like "Build a large statue of me" "Why?" "Because you'll go to Hell if you don't".
Your mind is a strange thing. Consiousness...
hell wouldnt' be just physical methinks
Ok, bad joke.
Dante described Hell pretty well in The Inferno.
But I like the Room 101 (Which is the room where Neo lives in the Matrix) concept.
I'm not gonna say much becase i'm in class on a cramped keybaord./
Our world is hell. With all the injustice, the constant wars, children starving.... This my friends, is the Devil's playground.
Reality is the worst hell one could ever find

I agree. We are already in hell (not that I believe in any of that.... Ahem, BS...).

Sorry, but for my personal belief's, Hell is simply the end of life. Either you go to Valhalla or you don't.
On a more serious note, wasn't it the catholic church who denounced the classical interpretation of hell and proclaimed it to be a state of being?
Satan's problem is that he knows that evil is evil. It's not like he simply took God's set of values and put them upside down, making good evil and evil good in his mind. James 2:19: "You believe that God is one; well and good. Even the demons believe that—and tremble with fear."
Satan doesn't like us; in fact, I think, his envy and despise for the human race was a major cause of his fall. We will judge angels (1 Cor 6:3); that's something his pride couldn't cope with. He'll be quite happy to take revenge on us in every way possible, I'm afraid. We were the obstacle in his career.
At least, that's my theory.
You know how insecure people sometimes bully other people to make them feel happy? Well, satan is going to be the biggest bully you ever knew, and, whats worse is that no amount of bullying will ever make him happy, so he will not stop.
You thought reality is bad? just wait until you die.
as TOOL said. Hell is everything heaven isnt

Technically speaking, you are right...I live here ffs!
Agreed.
Now, it astonishes me so many people believe in this stuff, it is a childrens story (taken literally), to scare children straight. How can people take the bible literally?? It is a symbolic and metaphoric interpretation of the world, it is not a fundemental text, you cannot describe 'hell' as a physical place.
Hell is metaphor for man's struggle between good an evil, and our knowledge and theory of these concepts; they are simple binary opposites. Man has created this concept to show this because we feel that commiting 'bad' deeds (that we interpret as wrong) will not go unpunished, and hell has become constructed into a physical place.
I dont believe in god, the afterlife, the devil, nothing really because

man created these stories to make himself feel more important

man cannot stand the fact that we dont know the meaning of this life

we are scared of dying, and scared of what awaits us after death

man has an over-active imagination

man wants to seem more important than the animals, whilst there isnt much which seperates us from them

evolution is the key theory, we have not always been homospaien, our species has only been present for ~3.5 billion years, if the whole universe's existance is one day, man appeared 2 seconds before midnight (best video btw)

The quote in my sig says it all.
