Computer's Not Noticing Ram...

It's the right kind too!
Ok, today I decided for a little upgrade for my computer. I got a 17 inch flat screen, Optical Mouse, Halo, and a Gig of RAM[Bragging? Maybe ^_^ ()]. I installed everything, and it's all working, but when I checked my computer specs, it doesn't notice my RAM. Wha?! Anyway, anyone know what's going on, and anyone want to play Halo?

    Host a game and I will. I can't host with my college's T1 line.

Hmm...sure you plugged it into the right slot?

Take out your ram that works and put the new ram in the slot where your old ram was.....If that works, then I think your slot is broken OR maybe your windows version can't handle a gig?

If it was the wrong piece, then it wouldn't even fit into the slot....(I think)

Make sure it's pushed in all the way too!

Ok, I went to Fryz to buy it. And I brought my old piece and told him I need a Gig of this kind, and I gave it to him. The new RAM that I got looks exactly the same, just alot taller. I switched slots, that didn't work, I pushed it down, and that didn't work. And Halo's giving me crap about DirectDraw not being Enabled, but it is.

Did you try putting the taking out the RAM that does work and replace it with your new ram? put the new ram in the slot where your old ram is.

    Liku, did you:

Remember to check the key notches?

Remember to make absolutely CERTAIN that the locking-arms engaged fully?

Remember to clean out the formerly unused slots with a 'canned air' duster? (VERY important)

Remember to check your motherboard specs, to be certain that it could HANDLE DIMMs with 512MB capacity (assuming that's the size they were)?

Remember to check your motherboard's specs, to make sure that the amount of RAM did not exceed the total supportable?

Remember to GROUND YOURSELF before opening the RAM carriers, much less touch the sticks or install them? Electrostatic discharge CAN fry sticks of RAM like bacon.

Remember to keep your receipt?

If you didn't clean out the slots, there's a very good chance that the slots had dust in them, which is conductive. At best, a little dust fried, you can clean off the pin-ridge with a lint-free cloth and some alcohol, and dust it. Worst case (MAJOR dust build-up) the RAM is fried, and you can try to return it as defective.

In any case, remove and CLEAN the pin-edge with the little bit of alcohol and lint-free cloth *making certain to allow it to dry fully* before removing the current (working) stick and slotting it there. If the system boots, great. If not.... well. The situation gets unpleasant from there, so let's just hope it works.
