+ other problems caused by STEAM
boy, when i heard all the negative things about steam, i thought that it wasn't really that bad.. but now i know better. It's really a STEAMing pile of dog doo.
my system specs:
xp sp1
1.5ghz pentium
384 ram
9600 pro (3.8 cats dx9b)
updates and autoruns AVG and Spybot every 7 days
today i installed steam and here's what happened:
1.dled steam + cs (official download)
2.created account, update steam, cs etc. follows guide stikied on top of this forum
3.starts cs/hl but steam freezes my entire OS whenever i use the mouse on any GUI menus. rode the tram, etc to "activate" half-life. but when i "esc" to change options its freeze time
4.on reset the xp login menu was preceded by a screwed up multi colored striped error screen
5.retried loading games to figure out what caused crash (repeat steps 3, 4, about 10 times)
6.sometimes games would fail to load or steam error message saying "this game is not available please try again later"
7.many of the options available through steam menus are greyed out
8.uninstalls steam through control panel-> add/remove progs.
9.reinstalls steam.
10. repeat steps 2-8
11.checks contents of alledgedly uninstalled steam folder
12.finds nothing from steam folder has been removed (cstrike folder, steamapps etc all there)
13. tries to manually delete steam folder but get WEIRD error message saying somethign like "the 'save' folder is currently bla bla bla + some other wierd crap"
14.trying to manually delete other folders within steam folder results in exactly the same message
15 trying to manually delete non-folders from steam folder results in nothing deleted even though confirming delete from the prompt.(NEVER HAVE I SEEN OR HEARD XP BECOME THIS UNSTABLE!)
16.restarts computer and succeeds in deleting steam folder
17.tries to get on this forum to post rant about steam and finds that my NIC has stopped responding.
18.one hour and many system restores later the only thing able to get my nic back on was to unplug my comp from the wall and waiting 30 seconds and pluggin it back in.
things i noticed about steam:
-not compatible with my microsoft optic mouse? freezes whenever i mouseover a menu item
-has 60+% cpu usage running in the background!
-does not uninstall properly.
-is adware
-managed to de-stable my OS and shutdown my NIC
i am just astonished as to how thoroughly installing steam has wreaked havoc on my computer. I wish someone can shed some light as to how all this could have happened by installing steam. every piece of hardware and OS were stable before i installed steam. surprisingly the thing that angers me the most is how i cannot use my mouse with steam menus. i don't know what else to say.. i'm just dumbfounded at the moment. i dont' want to touch steam ever again. not with a 10 foot pole; not with an infinitely long pole.
i am so dissapointed at steam at this moment i have decided not to buy HL2. I will probably be a dedicated doom3 player seeing as it will come out first.

notice i have created an account on their forums (hotSTEAMingPOO) just to b!tch about this topic. steam is just an awful piece of trash right now. you all have been warned: stay away... far far away. run and dont' look back.
