<div class="IPBDescription">A little sc flashback coems to ns</div>Well, ive been thinking about SC and NS and suddenly something snapped in my mind(or my brain exploded) either way i thought it would be nice if the mappers added some kind of defensive bunker near the marine CC spawn points. Nothing like turrets, just a builing shaped kind of like a dome (if youve played Starcraft, its shaped like the marine bunker). I think it would be neat because if the commander said so, the marines could rush to the bunker and take defensive positions if they spotted an attack coming towards the base.
PS: The bunkers should have some kind of window the marines can shoot from.

well, maybe on some special maps there would be weldable bunkers (they would have to have 10000's of HP to withsand all those level 1 attacks) and would take like, 2 minutes to build (well, actually weld; but who cares?) up.
but, the bunker idea would have to be a func_weldable with 10000's of stength, and only on maps where the fighting was intense, and the aliens have the upper hand.
IE: aliens start with 3 hives in one room w/ lots of resource nodes and "marines have to survive long enough for nuke to go off where aliens are" kinda map.
well, if not in the profesional maps, maybe in user-made maps (thoughts of fy_iceworld from CS spring to mind, as it is a death-matchish map and is VERY small w/ the buying center in the middle under water [something a profesional mapper would never do].)

unless its a map made by fans like us (and me <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> ) and actually put in a bunker like thing somewhere in the map just because it fits, or becuase it would go well with the lay-out.
immagine: a bunker in a wall that has a weldable door (closed, weld open) and there is enough room in there for 2 marines, and a turret. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> a aliens worst nightmare.
however, this whole idea would onlt really work in a "Base assualt" like map where aliens are trying to enter into a marine base and take out "X" object to win and where such defences are needed. badly.

is it possible to code/map/model an entity like a bunker or wall section that can be 'built' in-game, REAL TIME...?

BETTER still, can u 'spawn a PREFAB' real-time ingame? like... in this case the Bunker? which is destroyable, and enter-able, and is treated exactly like how normal terrain is treated...?

for example, a mod where you can open a sub menu like in TFC and 'build'(summon/spawn) a structure... for example a turret, or better still a wall section directly? and that wall is NOT clippable(walk-able through), and can be destroyed over time due to damage... ?
this is a semi-suggestion/idea from me for the mod... im sure the building aspect has been mentioned before.. but i would personally love to hear from a coder or mapper who knows about this sorta thing :>

I'm not sure if that would work, i haven't played much with func_weldable
I agree with the comment about this idea not making sense in a indoor map. And since all the official maps are indoors, there no way for it becoming a buildable like the turrets. But i don't think there was anything against these kinds of things built into maps.

yes, i think it would be possible with a funk_weldable, it would also give the player the impression of building something, once completed it could trigger a funk_wall(the bunker) to appear...

yay i was right <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> i just tested that the other day you have a func_weldable brush with the target as a func_wall_toggle set as the same shape as the weldable brush with a metalic texture (i have a custom texture for it) while as usual the func_weldable has aaatrigger as the texture.
Maybe i should make some mapping tutorials on Tactical Prefabs for people wanting to make ns maps....

what it would look like from inside would be a hole, with a stair-case leading down into the main area, and a basic "dome" like shape with holes in it to shoot out of.
