I'd definately find some way to utilize the physics, the maps could be totally revamped and since you can achieve a new level of atmosphere they might loosen up the mapping guidelines.
Unfortunately the closest thing to any scenarios/objectives currently is welding random stuff, but for some reason I find that entertaining on some of the larger maps. I make a goal for myself to go and weld shut everything possible, and sometimes I get some interesting comments from people who discover that their usual route has been nullified because I closed a vent or two. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Subtle, I grant you, but a difference nonetheless.
I'd really love to see a much wider tech tree for the marines. I'm a science and industry nut - love that game Sooo much, one reason is the tech tree. Now I'm not suggesting that NS should have a tech tree THAT big, but the weapons and items you could imagine could a) be made and b) be made to look awesome.
That'd really broaden gameplay, adding more tactics and small details. These are the things that make games Awesome. NS at present is great, but it hasn't had long enough to evolve (forgive the pun) into what I've no doubt it will one day be. That's not a dig btw, it's an observation that NS has opened a door to a whole new world of gaming (arguments on this point aren't welcome, I know it wasn't the first RTS/FPS).

PS unfortunately, given some responses to this thread, it might be taken as being another NS+HL2 OMG OMG thread, which is a shame cos I think this community probably has a lot of interesting ideas about this issue.
<i>Maybe</i> not everyone has commented on every subject. You guys really need to quit trying to be the forum nazi's...
I would like to see something like whats been proposed with TF2, where there is like a squad leader for marines. If you don't rambo and stick near him then your accuracy & movement speed get better.
Immediate rewards for teamwork would be cool. Carrot motivate the nubs. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think it'd be interesting to add in objective maps, like in *cough* DoD... Like;
"Marine: Hold position for 10 minutes for evacuation"
"Marine: establish a point of operation in 3 key locations of the map <area 1, area 2, area 3." (meaning to buil a cc, armory, and ip in each of the locations... two of which are hives.)
"Aliens: prevent Marines from discovering the mother hive for 10 minutes" (blocking with OC's, SC's, you get the drift.)
The you have your "regular" ns maps... "wipe out spawning abilities"
It'd be a chance to totally combine NS:C and NS together. maybe have different "objectives" for each. I dunno, i've been up all night so i'm allowed to be goofy.
say if it's an classic spaceship map or you encounter a tight building, it would mostly count to ol'scool weapons and upgrades/morphs.
BUT when you're on a desert plane with a lotta room, there could be some big guns to fall on. like Halo buggies and dropships, along with extra forms for aliens so to be come giant Starcraft style Floating Carrier Creatures.
aside from making use of new engine ablitys (techdemo's Aqua-Gordan effect could make a neat cloak) and figuring out how to recreate effects like wallwalk; it's pretty much adding stuff on then a serious revamp.
i hope they go for it some day.
and yeah, i'm getting sick of the censorship crap too. many people have talked about other stuff over and over, it's not like we're gonna abandon the place if you don't convert.
<!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> so if you have much money for paid Flayra.. that is possible <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
It could run up to a marine, clamp onto his leg, and then try to run backwards, pull the marine onto the ground and allowing you to go for the throat... 2 skulks pulling at opposite ends of the same human... *splat* There go his arms...
Then again that might be a tad TOO gorey for NS... But being able to grab other stuff with your jaws would rock...
And yeah, onos physics could be done real well.... A TSA drop ship is flying through some tunnels, trying to escape this swarm of lerks in a scene not unlike the Final Flight of the Osirus, when suddenly this onos jumps down onto the ship from above, it's weight and momentum forcing the ship steeply down, and each time the pilot tries to recover, the onos stomps or jumps, further driving the ship down!
And while normal NS gamers may not appreciate the possibilties of this, most mappers would wet their pants at the idea of building a TSA dropship in the map editor with moving doors, manable turrets, location specific damage for each plate of armour with dynamic display screens on the inside of the dropship telling you how much dmg the drop ship has taken and where, and cameras so we can all see what the pilot sees...
It's not so much the idea of the dropship that should have the mappers going wild here, it's more the way we can attach entities to other entities so easily and set up really complex relationships between them...
We could make a wooden table, that tips over if you shoot out one of it's legs for instance. That in itself is pretty damn cool from a mapper's perspective...
We need more destruction in the maps... >:)
Bigger life forms, vehicles, bigger guns, bigger buildings, bigger bases, bigger servers, just plain bigger. Of course in such an open setting the 3 hive system would not work that well, so perhaps a new alien system could be thought up for use on the surface. Of course, this would seperate the game much from the original NS, but thats half the point. Why have the same game on 2 engines? Talk about splitting the player base...
Make the games different enough so that there's still reason enough to play both. Also it'd draw many similarities with HL1 and 2... HL1 was first contact, and HL2 looks like it's definately the war...
I also like the idea of bigger bugs, and bigger equipment for the marines to use.
I know it has stated no mechs, but having a super HA that was made for outdoor battles would be very cool.
You could still have hives outside, however you could have a mother hive which counts towards 3 hives in a ship, and then add the 4th, 5th, and or 6th hives up, increasing the ability and lifeform capability of the aliens. Where the marines have a commander and a few Sgt's to help out.
Stomp could put dents in the floor.
back on page 1 sum one was on about how welding doors was not the only option in NS, now with the whole in engine in HL2 you could barricade your self in from a massive skulk rush, and call for backup, listening to the gun shots of you fellow team mates rifles, and the bullets ripping through the skulks puny armour, like in Aliens but without the skulks: P
Basically imp saying, you ideas for NS in HL2 could go on for ever. But put forward decent, none stupid ideas, other wise u shall not be listened to!
Its a new engine thats not covered in dust!
I say MILK IT!
so many things you could do with NS, but there is one factor... time. Flayra is a human being, not a machine that pumps out updates and mods like they were twinkys (mmmm twinkys). He cant work on updating and ironing the bugs out of NS and developing NS2 at the exact same speed... he would have to focus on one, so which one do you want more? keep in mind NS2 would have slow progress because he has to build from the ground up.
And, oh yeah, we need more of this:

You can see big car wrecks being slowly shunted across a highly by the force of the bullets hitting it, you can watch as the allied AI watches what you do and tries to react accordingly, no matter what you decide you need to do...
Those vids are SERIOUSLY impressive
